My Citroen Picasso Exclusive power steering has just stopped working (suddenly). The fluid level was a bit on the low side which I have now topped up. The air-con still seems to be working so I think the auxiliary belt is ok. If the power steering pump had failed would I get a fault message on the display, and is there an easy way to test the pump before I start looking for a replacement.

Hi im just wondering how much petrol their is when one bar is showing? Do i need to fill up straight up or do i have a couple of miles. 1.8 xsara picasso.

Answers

You will have a surprisingly fair way to go. My 60 litre diesel will give me at least 100 miles of careful driving on 1 bar. You will get a low fuel warning after a while, then if you continue to drive you will get what I call a final warning where the last bar disappears. This gives you around 30 miles of driving I think, though I've never run out the most I've filled up with was 57 litres (meaning I only had around 4 or 5 in the tank) Bear in mind your tank may be smaller and your miles per gallon may be worse as it's a petrol, though the warnings will be the same Jonathan Brown from Swansea

Engine fault keeps coming up on the display and inactive overspeed anybody tell me why. And what does it mean...

Answers

The fault isn't related to the inactive overspeed. Either purchase a obd2 code reader or take it to a garage for investigation. The inactive overspeed warning is something you can set to warn you when you travel over a certain speed. Just push the button on the end of windscreen wash/wiper stalk to cycle through whichever display you prefer. (to actually set the overspeed you need to long press the stalk to activate then short press to bring up Program. Then travel at whichever speed u choose and long press the stalk again to program the alarm at that speed. Once you switch the engine off, the warning will once again become inactive so u need to activate it everytime u want to use it. It will remember the speed setting though, personally I think it's a waste of time) Jonathan Brown from Swansea

Hi, please see if somebody can help me with this one. My 2000 model 2.0hdi, will not start. We replaced glo plugs which came up as a fault. Can get it started with Quickstart and idles but as soon as revs pick up to 1500 it cuts out. It is a typical scenario of timing gone wrong - smokes and chokes. How can we check timing and is it possible to adjust timing or test timing manually on this car? Also, can one adjust the dieselpump timing. A friend suggested that it sounds like it gets diesel to late, and it also has a diesel knock. Please, any help in this regard?? Thanks a lot!

Hi I have just removed the battery for charging, but now I can not lock the back doors. Is there a way to do this manually?

Answers

Your BSI (computer) needs resetting. Follow this procedure exactly. And next time you disconnect/reconnect you're battery don't touch anything for 5 minutes Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition. Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds. Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.). Switch on the side lights through the driver's window. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system. Start the engine and complete the system's check Jonathan Brown from Swansea

Over the past month it has been getting harder to get my car into 1st and 2nd gear. Sometimes I can go all day with just 1 or 2 issues but if I am starting and stopping say in the town centre it gets worse to the point it doesn't want tk come out. The reversing over the past two weeks crunches just to get it in gear. The clutch bite virtually kicks in when you start to lift your foot of the floor. So here is what I would like to know:- 1, does anyone know what's wrong 2, how much do you think it would cost to get fixed The mot is due sept and I already need to get the cam belt done so my dilemma is get rid of the car obviously stating issues with car or get the work done????

Answers

When mine struck debris in the middle of the road it developed a leak, garage found the sump seal had been loosened so tweaked it. It's been 2 weeks and no leaks so far. If you're due an oil change ask them to take a look while carrying it out. Jonathan Brown from Swansea

Hi does any body know why my Citroen picasso only over heats when engine is running but not moving thanks

Answers

The water pump can be suspect on picassos, but could also be the fan or thermostat. Of course also check your coolant level. I'd look at the fan first as this I what substitutes the flow of air when moving. Get it checked out soon though, you don't want to damage your engine because of a simple component failure or you'll be left with a hefty bill Jonathan Brown from Swansea

What is right battery for xsara Picasso 2005 petrol 1.6. If it is 640 ampers can you fit 440 ampers battery (Bosch Car BatteryS3 Battery 012 3 Year Guarantee).is this battery in brackets ok for this car I install it and first day is seems to be ok . Is it going to be ok in future?

Answers

440 should be fine for a 1.6 Petrol. I have the 640 on my diesel but they require a higher CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) than petrol vehicles. Bear in mind that as well as 440 being enough, it is 440 at 0F/-18C so assuming you're in the UK it's unlikely you'll meet those temperatures very often anyway. At warmer temperatures the battery can kick out higher amps Jonathan Brown from Swansea

Hi The problem I am having is that the brake lights are staying on all the time , but if you use your foot to lift the brake pedal up slightly they go off but then back on , also have times when the engine lose power , does not stall , just no power or revs , any ideas why all these problems ,it's a 2003 Citroen Picasso 2.0 hdi and 60,000 miles on the clock , many thanks Richie

Answers

Hi the issue with the brake lights could be simple (mine was!!) attached under the dash by the pedal is the brake light switch it is a small white unit inside a black holder, two wires in at the back and push switch that the pedal operates when depressed. The switch can easily be removed and taken apart (watch the spring!) inside you will find an electrical contactor mine was all corroded and was sticking, a quick clean with WD40 and a bit of fine sandpaper and all put back together no issues for 2 years. I did buy a new switch just in case ( only about £6 but it is still sitting iin my spares box! ) Paul paul blow from Cheshire
