Hi! I picked any of the 1.6ltr HDI diesel engine. My car has no power, it feels limp or lazy. There are no warning lights or system messages, no overheating, no abnormal amounts of smoke out of the exhaust. It`s had a system check with 3 different diagnostic computers and nothing came up besides a turbo under boost message and abnormal recirculation. We checked for air coming out of the turbo and there is, it`s not blowing crazy but it`s blowing. There is suction on the intake of the cooler, the turbo seems to be turning. All sensors are working because we unplugged a number of them to test. The car starts normally, drives normally, sounds okay, no knocking.. What can it be? Is it the turbo?

My ESP AND ENGINE FAULT yellow lights have come on. If I turn off and press the esp button until its yellow light comes on with just the ignition on, then press esp again, the dash warning light goes out for a few miles. At the same time the ENGINE FAULT warning light comes on. I have tried the 10 second on and off procedure which cured it for 2 days. Now they have both come on again. Has anybody any clues as to the cause of this problem? It makes no difference to the the running of the car.

Hi. I have got a Citroen Xsara Picasso and when I turn the lights on at night the dash lights go off or sometimes go on slightly. Is there a dimmer switch or something or do I have to change the bulb?

Answers

Yes there is a dimmer switch, It is down on the left and the left switch is in a row of 3 switches, the next two are for the rear windows. Press the upside of the switch to brighten the lights, and vice versa. Good luck. Mike from France

Sorry, mine is LHD, so look on the right side and you will see a switch marked with a "lamp" sign, then do the adjustment. Mike from France

Hi, im having a problem with my cruise control. Since i bought the car it hasn't worked but cant figure out why. When i switch on the cruse control nothing on the dash appears or even shows any evidence that the cruise control switch has been activated. Can anyone help please?

Answers

There is a switch at the top of the clutch pedal, check this switch for correct detection of the clutch not being pressed, try lifting the clutch pedal with your foot as you switch on the cruise control. Also cruise control will only ever activate in 4th or 5th gear and above 30 mph Graham from Lincolnshire

Citroen Xsara Picasso

Hi there. I have a real head scratcher! Had my 2000 1.6 petrol Picasso for a couple of years now with no problems at all except for last year when I had a complete new exhaust fitted, including the cat. Just recently I'm hearing a very tinny vibration when driving it for the first 5-10 minutes until it reaches a hot temperature when it just disappears. I took it to a garage the other day and he ripped part of the heat shield away saying that it was that which was causing the noise and that it wasn't needed!!! Despite him telling me that it was definately the problem as they remove about 10 of them a week, when driving off again from cold, the noise was still there. It doesn't seem to affect the performance or fuel consumption in any way. Can anyone help? thanks. Nick.

Hi, I have a problem with my 2003 Picasso. While driving the other day a fuel line burst and started leaking excessive diesel. I replaced the overflow lines on the injectors and after bleeding the injectors I tried to start the car. It started and ran for 10 seconds but would not rev and the engine cut out. I tried a few times but the same thing happened. I`ve bled the system but it hasn't helped. There is plenty of fuel coming to the fuel filter and from the delivery side to the engine. Could you help me? Thanks

Answers

I have heard this problem before. When i bought my picasso in january this year. According to the garage were i bought my car from, my picasso had the same problem before i bought it. It turned out to be the throttle body (situated under the bonnet just to the right of the block at the top) and the EGR valve. I was told to help prevent that problem coming back, a good run on the motorway once a month would clear the engine. The cause is the egr valve gets clogged with carbon to a point it doesnt operate correctly and therefore the throttle body fails as its an electrical component. However, in your case the diesel may have got into the throttle body and caused a malfunction as the diesel lines and filter are directly below the throttle body on a picasso 1.6 hdi. I would suggest getting those two components checked before shelling ££££'s on something that isn't at fault. Chris from Lancashire

Our rear wiper works as and when it wants to (as well as when we switch it on!). It starts working when we blip the car unlocked or locked, when a friend with their Picasso blips their car locked or unlocked, whether our car is in/out of gear, reverse/forward gear etc. If parking in a car park we just have to leave the rear wiper in action and have faith that it will stop shortly! It eventually stops (after a few minutes on average) and the wiper 'parks' wherever it lands, invariably mid-screen. There is a regular 'clicking' on the lower R/H side of dash/steering column when the rear wiper is in action. Can anyone help with a 'do-able' cure please?!

Answers

my rear wipers packed up, to my utter amazement I found out that the vehicle had had a rear shunt before I bought it and the plug to the wiper had partly popped out, thus the wipers which worked intermittent ly eventually stopped working, basic rule are; check the plug in connection on the wiper for corrosion and connectivity, tests can be performed on the supply lead either using a voltage meter or a 12 volt bulb and a piece of lightweight wire, if no joy check fused rack and finally the relay. you don't want to replace the motor without first establishing that the wiper is receiving its power supply, jap from Warwickshire

Model HDi Diesel 2002, 140,000 miles (not Estate) The idle speed on my Picasso is sometimes rhythmic (slightly faster/slower two or three times a second) and also can be felt when accelerating gently away in the lower gears, not really noticable at motorway speeds. It has been happening for a couple of months.Up to now I have only had the injectors tested ,no fault found and no obvious cause. Occasionally a slight pinking can also be heard, similar to the older petrol-engined cars (not when idling),but I havn`t noticed any smoke from the exhaust. This may be a separate issue but twice over the last 12 months the small plastic threaded cover under the diesel fuel pump has leaked and been replaced (I believe this to be for retaining or bleeding off any water in the diesel). This has recently started weeping fuel again. I would appreciate any advice on this as my local (smallish) Citroen garage couldn`t diagnose it .

When I'm driving along the flat at a constant speed, the car suddenly loses power as if I've taken my foot of the accelerator pedal. When I take my foot of the accelerator and immediately put put it back on again, the car carries on as if nothing had happened, until it happens again a few minutes later. I have changed the throttle position sensor, but it still happens. I have a diagnostic reader which gives the fault codes P0120 ,P0220 ( throttle position sensor ) any ideas please??

Answers

I know this is an old post but may be useful to someone looking for solution to the above problem. It worked on my Picasso and I never thought it would, worth a try before you spend money. Start with the engine off, turn the key so the car is on but not the engine and leave for 10 seconds. Thenturn off for 10 seconds and turn on again (not the engine), this time with your foot fully on the gas for 10 secs. Turn off for 10 seconds, start the engine with your foot fully on the gas for 2 seconds then release your foot. Then it should run fine - resets what it needs to. I`m just glad my bro-in-law was head mechanic at Blacker as I bet they don't tell you this normally! Hope this helps someone steven mansell from Gloucestershire

Had my car about 4 years now but have noticed that when I am stuck in traffic the engine temperature warning light comes on and it beeps to say engine overheating, switch off engine. Worst case scenario is blown head gasket, but could be faulty thermostat to faulty water pump. Do you have any coolant leaking out? Peter from Berkshire

Take it to an auto electrician. I had exactly the same thing happen to me. It turnedout that this wonderous road resurfacing material a stone ofwhich had flown up on a dead precise course andjammed the radiator fan in place. Consequently when the fan is cut in by the temperature sensor it does a few wonderful things, well its supposed to. The 70 amp protection fuse should have blown to protect the fan, it didnt, no surprise there seeing as the motor is only capable of pulling 50 amp on static surge. Second the relay tht turns the fan on and off could have died or fell out. Unfortunately both jobs require front bumper removal. I changed the fan and relay nmy car which ive only had a 2 weeks and of course the guy never said it had been in a front end smack and they had just stuck a new radiator in it to cover the damaged crossmember. Now the fan works perfectly and the temperature stays at 2 or 3 bars then the fan cuts in. If your car has A/C then leave the 70 amp fuse in place, if not chane it for a 45 or 50. pete from Lincolnshire

Hi i have a 2003 Xsara Picasso. When i got the car it was fine, but now, when i use the indicators, the headlights come on and cancels the indicators (but doesnt effect the selector stalk). I have noticed that when indicating left its not too bad but when indicating right, i get three flashes then it switches to headlights. I have found a way of stopping this happening and that is to turn on the sidelights. I know its not too bad of a compromise but its getting on my nerves. I have a feeling that i will be going through more sidelight bulbs now unless i get it sorted. I am also not too sure on how this will effect an MOT certificate.... Please, any information on a fix would be greatly appreciated.
