Citroen Xsara Picasso

I had a "battery charge fault" warning on the dashboard. I have replaced both the battery and the alternator but it still comes up. The garage confirmed that the battery is charging correctly and have suggested the problem is with the dashboard. I have noticed that the lights on the dashboard are now fading up and down both when I'm driving and when the car is idling. I would be grateful for any suggestions as to what I can replace next! Thank you.

Our Citreon Xsara Picasso smells of petrol when we drive with the windows open. We are concerned this could be dangerous, does anyone know why this would happen? We can't smell the petrol with the windows shut. We recently had spark plugs and coil pack replaced and it passed it M.O.T in February. Money is tight, so worried about cost, but don't want to drive a dangerous car. Please can anyone help with advice?

I have two questions. I bought this car, second hand, recently and since day one I have been having several electric issues. locking doors (actuators burn out) wippers with ideas of their own (working when they should not) and some others. I sent my BSI to be reviewed by a auto electrical mechanic which clean moisture from the Printed circuit and according to it check on it on the benck and worked ok. I must admit that now it works, by far, much better than it did before but eventually some failures happen. (the door actuators one for instance) I have noticed that when put the stick on reverse, it is possible to hear a constant series of relays clickings. any reason for that? has anybody suffered similar problem with the actuators failing after renewal? Regards

The other day I took my key out of the ignition, opened the door and it made a noise saying my key was still in the ignition. Shortly after that the engine auto diagnose light came on steady and doesn't go off. In the Handbook it says it could be a fault either in the fuel injection, ignition or anti pollution systems (according to country) I am in the UK. I do not have much money and I do have RAC basic cover.

Intermittently, but becoming more frequent, when I am cornering (either way) with the indicators on, they stop and the lights are selected on. I don't know if this is the proper lights or headlight flasher. Fiddling with the stalk arm reverts to indicators most times. What is the likely cause?

does this car have a clutch cable?

Answers

Susan, your car should have a clutch cable and depending on your exact setup the Citroen part number could be any one of the following: 2150-AS, 2150-AT, E074366 or E074384. According to Citroen workshop docs there is no cable or pedal adjustment possible. In any event Citroen with invoice you for 0.7 or 0.8 of an hour to change the cable in situ. I have a Citreon Xsara Picasson Excl 92 first registered 30.4.1007 I have a warning showing on dash of inactive overspeed warning...what does this mean?

Answers

Citroen incorporated electronic gadgetry into their ecu programming that can be used to warn the driver of excess speed and you can set the speed it advises you. there's also a speed limit that can be programmed to prevent the vehicle going over speed.. usually set at about 74mph if used... it is not activated on all vehicles.. but why it's telling you that it's not active.. dunno, unless it's in a scrolling menu. when i put the key in to start the car, nothing happens, all the lights are on and bright, this does not happen all the time.

Answers

Occasional electrical failures are the most difficult to diagnose Mark.. but first things I'd be looking at to check... earthing contacts are not corroded and are good, in particular the main earthing straps from engine/starter to the bodywork.. then look for a loose connection in smaller leads. You might have a faulty ignition switch or a faulty starter motor but I'd be looking first (because it costs nothing) at the wiring connectors and connections. R Evans from Caerphilly

I had the power steering pump go, and power steering fluid then goes all over the alternator directly below and the aircon pump below that, I did not believe the garage telling me to replace thae alternator as it was only 2 years 7,000 miles old and under warranty from National Tyres and Aotocentres. However a month and 1000 miles later sure enough the computer on the dash started to read no battery charge intermittently coupled with the red battery warning light I took it to National Autocentres who kindly took pity on me and reduced the cost of a second alternator from £321 to £245 but also advised I could look forward to a summer with little or no aircon as the power steering fluid is also all over the aircon pump 2 months later and will seep gradually into the bushes of that as it did with the alternator. Therefore if your power steering pump goes and you find it has not only deposited the fluid (which only comes off the drive with high end wheel cleaners combined with bleach and boiling water) on your drive and your car is worth under £1000 then it is an ecomomic write off and you are better off selling it for spares and buying a newer car - tho my 51 plate I have owned from new so it is worth more to me than if I bought it without knowing the history. It is also possible that the steering will be damaged re next MOT if you drove the car without power steering (unclear if this means 1 mile or 100 miles) and that other problems will start with the electrics, I have already had the radio intermittent so if I had known all this I would have sold it for parts and not repaired it

I am having trouble when I intercate to the right. It works for 3 flashes then goes off and turns the automatic lights on. I have tried to disable the auto lights ( turn the key one position and press the end of the indicator stalk) however, this makes no difference. The manual informs me that the fuse for auto lights is number 7 in the box under the bonnet but it does not have a slot for a fuse. The indicators work if the lights are kept on. Any ideas of the problem and/or how to disable the auto lights. Thanks

Answers

I had the exact same problem, the indicator stork had to be changed and it was quiet expensive as it also has the headlights and fog lights on the stork, I left it for a year as I just made sure I drove around with the lights on day and night, but eventually it made the horn stop working so it failed the mot and so I had to have it replaced, it's all working great now. Hope you get the problem sorted Lisa from Yorkshire
