Can anyone shed some light on why my Citroen Xantia’s windows steam up all the time, in all types of weather, even when I’m not in it? Please advise.

Citroen Xantia 1998

My Citroen Xantia’s speedometer is bouncing from 0 - 80 km and everywhere in between!!! Everything else on the dash is working fine, and if I restart the car, the speedometer is normally fine :/ Has anyone got any idea what this might be and what it would cost to fix it please???

My 1998 Activa tachometer stopped working after 12 years and 180,000 Km. Took it to Continental Cars in Sydney who pulled tacho/speedo out in attempt to fix problem. Failed with tacho and managed to stuff speedo as well, which stuck at 40 KPH immediately post-service - remedied after complaint - but thereafter would stick at 120 kph unless one banged dashboard. Only reason ever given was that gear mechanism had flat spot with the additional helpful advice that "once you start fiddling there, you can open a can of worms". Another auto-electrician had a look and recommended replacement of speedo/tacho (about $1200 new). Wept as I traded in Activa on new C5. The Citroen Xantia engine is not turned on when I try to start the car, in the morning when the temperature is low (10-14 Celsius degrees), the vehicle engine is not turned on. While this happens: The lights in the cabin do not work, the remote control does not open the doors but all the other systems including starter working well. After a few hours when warming up and the sun is shining, all the systems back to work without a problem and the car starts. The mechanic at the garage disconnected the alarm system of the vehicle and the problem still continued. After we disconnected the immobilizer and reconnected it back the vehicle is running. The immobilizer was tested in the lab but no fault was found in it. Does anyone have an idea how to solve the problem? (SX 2000cc, automatic, gasoline)

I have no heating in my Citroen Xantia. The blower is working, so is the thermostat but no heat is coming through. Can anyone help or advise?

Hi, I want to change my steering rack arms - how do I do this? When you take of a nut there seems to be a bracket round the gaiter - how does this come off?

My Xantia engine revs are stuck at 2000rpm. Can anyone explain why?

Hi mate, got the same prob my rev counter does the same. Open your bonnet, have a look. Get someone to rev the car for you and you will see what is moving. Get a pair of plyers, take off the split pin, you can’t miss it, it’s on the big black throttle housen. Take out the pin, tell the person to watch the rev counter as you turn the plastic throttle till the revs drop to normal then replace the pin onto the throttle. Worked for me. If the car still revs, the throttle cable may be split inside causing the stick. Good luck - Martin McDougall from Mid-Lothian (Edinburghshire)

I changed my alternator because the charge light was flickering and the battery was going flat but I have still got the same problem. Does anybody have any ideas?

It is possible that the battery is at fault common for a cell to go down and cause this problem. Also check all fuses and any obvious large earth straps around engine bay are not rusty - Shaun from Sussex

Check your internal lights aren’t staying on - my car did the same and it was only 2 batteries later that I realised the lights were on constantly and draining the battery - Rachael from Herefordshire

I have searched the manual to no avail. On the right hand side above the handbrake light. An orange warning light that reminds me of a science glass beaker with small handles and it’s as if it’s a third full with black. Has lit up twice now and I have no idea what it stands for. Crazy that it’s not to be found anywhere in the manual as it’s part of the dashboard. Anyone have any idea please?

I have a problem with my blower motor. Before it was intermittent but now it’s OK but the motor runs in reverse. What can it be? (1.9 td hatchback)

Answers

This sounds like the dreaded relays on the motor, when these fail you normally only get one speed fan but sometimes they cause the fan to reverse. You would probably be best off with a new one as used ones are not normally much better - Stephanie Noyce from Berkshire

Citroen Xantia 1999

Hi, I recently had an idling problem. Car kept on stalling when slowing down/braking. I took out and cleaned the stepper (idle control) valve and now on start up it revs at between 3 and 4 thousand and won’t come down. I don’t know what I’ve done. Please help. Thanks.
