My Citroen C5`s central display (radio/CD/satnav/phone etc) suddenly stopped working a few days ago. The display now shows only the Citroen logo, overwritten with the message "Please insert Upgrade CD" and what may be an error code of 2.13. My dealer has had the car today and can’t diagnose what is wrong and wants it back again to investigate further. Any ideas? (Exclusive - Diesel Manual)

I need to check the suspension fluid LDS level of my Citroen C5. To re-pressurise we need a facom 920 tool which we have not got. I use these very successfully on my C5 Exclusive. http://www.riverswayleisure.co.uk/acatalog/info_832073.html Swapping the angle around allows them to stay on even when the car mirrors close in, without the towing mirrors hitting the car windows. Jim Kilpatrick from County Down

The battery runs down in 4-5 days if my Citroen C5 is not used, even after being fully charged. The battery is less than 2 years old. This problem has existed almost since new. The garage told me then that it was because the car was not used enough. A tow bar with twin electrics is fitted and I now think that possibly this is adding to the problem. Can anyone help? My 2002 Citroen C5 2Turbo Diesel`s fuel consumption has gone down drastically from 55-60mpg to 40mpg. The air filter has been changed as well as the oil filter. The dash board is also showing the incorrect air temperature which is always 8 degrees lower than it should be eg. 10 outside shows ice alert 2 inside which is very annoying. When driving it sounds like the baffles have gone on the exhaust. I have had this checked and the garage said that there was nothing wrong with it. Once I have got to speed, that is cruise control, you cannot hear it. Is this connected to the severe loss of mpg? I do love this car as I`ve had it for 9yrs and it is a dream to drive. Can someone help me please? (executive)

My Citroen dealer re-seated the 4 fuel injectors on my Citroen C5 and had one rebuilt. The C5 randomly idled but only when at full engine temperature. It was found that the 4th injector was blowing air and it was re-seated, but now the frequency of the problem has increased, still only when at idle and at full running temperature. About a week ago I had to stop on the M6 due to an accident ahead and the C5 was shaking so badly that I had to turn the engine off. Also this Citroen dealer has now washed it`s hands of it. Does anyone have any ideas? (2.2 Diesel)

My Citroen C5 was purchased on 1st Feb 2012. Not long after, after an evening out, when I turned the ignition on the multifunction screen and radio went on and off repeatedly. I couldn’t work any of it`s functions and turning the ignition off several times didn’t work. I had to put up with it coming on and off for the hour`s drive home. I then hit on the idea of taking the key out and it worked. It has now done it again under similar circumstances! Taking the key out a couple of times didn’t work this time so after a short drive I stopped, took the key out, opened the door and closed it, turned the ignition on and all was good again. I must admit it really annoyed me. I will be contacting the dealers tomorrow but I have a feeling it will not be an easy fix, at the very least it will cause a lot of inconvenience. Does anyone have any ideas please? (Exclusive diesel)

Hi people and thank you for your time. My Citroen C5 has no acceleration and no power. I can drive it but it just drives at the speed limit. The temperature gauge is always on cold and it seems like the turbo is not working. The service warning light is on and it feels like something is holding the power back. There are no noises or other signs. (hdi turbo diesel).

I have a C5 2001 2.0HDi and I am currently experiencing an intermittent noise when driving which sounds exactly like the the noise when my gears are put in reverse. The noise occurs every couple of seconds and is so annoying. It states in the manual it could be tyre pressure, I have checked this and all OK. All my fluids are OK in car. No lights on dash, so what could the problem be. Please advise. Many thanks.

Hi John, no real answer but a comment. I’ve just had the same thing and my mechanic friend said it took ages to get it off and not to put it back for time being. My comment is that the part is over £500 and if you have any idea where to get hold of two (one for each of us, please let me know). I could ask my friend how he got it off if you are still stuck - Doug Woods from Somerset

Hi! You need to get hold of a lad at www.akspeedo.com as he can supply you with a kit for just over £12.00 delivered to repair your knackered speedo and according to him, should take you about 1/2 an hour to sort! There are 2 dimples at the bottom of the speedo lens. Pop a flat blunt knife in at these 2 points (make sure your steering wheel is at its lowest by the adjuster on the l/h side 1st) and the speedo console should pop out fairly easily. Pop the clear lens off & proceed to take the speedo motor off at the rear of the console. Then just follow the instructions downloaded from his site and you will have repaired your bust speedo for just a few quid! Hope this helps - Ian Galloway from Yorkshire

I bought this Citroen C5 in 2007 new, since the beginning the car had two problems. First it turns off by itself when at low rpm’s . Very dangerous. Second if you are stopped and give it gas takes around two seconds to respond. I took the car back to the dealer more than 10 times but they can not fix the problem. I guess is up to me to find the problem. PLEASE HELP!

My C5 has started the "depollution system faulty" warning. This tends to result in the turbo not working, loss of power, and even engine cutting out. This has happened on a winding road at more than 30mph. This is a disgrace and should get more publicity. I suspect your problem is the same, but some unscrupulous mechanic has disabled the warning - Alan Dougan from Scotland

I recently had a new radiator fitted as it was leaking and using lots of coolant making the engine warning light come on saying it would overheat. The new radiator was fitted and works well. Since then the air con/heater in the car worked OK at first but now it just blows cold air, even when the heater is set to HI and full power speed 8. The car doesn’t have any air locks, and the pipes have been bled. The coolant levels are all OK. The actual pipes have plenty of hot water in them, but the actual blowers are just blowing cold. I have checked under the glove box and the small octagon dial is turning correctly to indicate it all works fine, but just perm cold air. Any ideas appreciated.

The heater on my Citroen C5 is only hot on passenger side. Any ideas why this would be?
Answers
A regular problem. The heater has stepper motors for heat & air direction for driver/passenger sides. They work on an octagonal plastic drive shaft which is a bit short so oly just fits in to the socket (Citroen replacements now have longer shaft). It eventually rounds off the corners. First stage failure is intermittent but eventually stops altogether. Drivers side can be reached by lying under the steering wheel and are on the side of the heater box. Passenger side, you need to remove the 9 torx screws and pull out the glove-box liner first. Replacement motors are available from Citroen or Ebay. Hi, I have a 2003 C5 2.2HDI Exclusive with Auto Climate Controlled Air Con which suffered Heater Blower failure last winter. I thought it was the blower as well, but on the Auto Climate Controlled models, there is a control unit in the drivers side footwell which has a habit of blowing. I managed to source one from a local scrap yard, and it has worked fine ever since. If yours is the Auto Climate Controlled Air Con, I would definatly try there first. Access is a bit tricky, but you take 2 small bolts out and extract it. It has two fairly chunky looking connectors plugged into it. It is rectangular with shiny metal blades(Heatsink). This is to dissipate heat as there is quite a bit of current running through it to power the Blower Motor. Hope this is of help to you, wish I had known this before dismantling my passenger side footwell and glove box to extract the Blower Motor. Cheers - Paul Geen from Norfolk

Hi, where can I top up my gearbox oil on my Citroen C5 automatic? Please can someone help me?
Answers
If the gearbox is the AL4, there is a filler plug just next to and slightly under the selector rod, closer to the engine when looking down at the gearbox from the front of the car. You must undo the inner level plug underneath the gearbox and stop filling when fluid flows out underneath. This prevents overfilling the gearbox which can cause problems - Justin Apperley from Australia

I have to replace the heater / A/C control panel but don’t know how to remove the centre console surround. Can anyone give me a clue? (2.0 Hdi Exclusive)
Answers
You can remove the centre console surround by pulling the gear lever gaiter up, turning it through 90 degrees and this then makes the two fixing bolts accessible at the bottom of the trim. The radio then needs to be removed by popping off the two switch surrounds and then undoing the two screws. The trim can then be pulled, gently, free. Unfortunately this only provides minimal access and when removing one from a scrap yard, I had to resort to breaking trim to get it out in order to avoid removing the whole dash - Todd Miller from Shropshire

Hi Tony, all you have to do to remove the old radio if its a factory fit is as follows. 1) Remove the plastic plates on both side of the radio where the lock and dashboard switches are - they just unclip. 2) Remove the two small torx head screws on either side of the radio. 3) Then pull the radio out and unclip the wiring plugs remove the radio. Hi, could you please tell me if there is a problem as to why every time I fill up with diesel fuel it seems to leak a little fuel out of the fuel cap and down the side of the body. I stop putting fuel in as soon as the first click kicks in but when I get to my destination, there are two or three spillage marks down the body work. Would you think that there is a fault with the fuel cap? The ring around the neck is like s split o ring all the way round to which I have filled it in with silicone to try and stop it. I have been back to Citroen but they say there is nothing wrong but I know there is. Another Citroen say that they have not come across this problem before but they say I might need a new fuel neck. What would your suggestion be please? Kind Regards, Dave.

I have a new C5, saloon, purchased April, 2010 with 11,000 kms. It has developed a ’metal on metal knocking noise’ from driver (left hand drive) front wheel. The noise is quite loud and starts when I do a full 90 degree turn to the right with speed at 10 to 13kmh. The noise is intermitant and only occurs in the stated circummstances. It can reappear after a week of silence. The car has been to the Citroen garage. No noise on test drive. Visual inspection of area around brakes but no problem could be found. Noise reoccured after 3 days and was there for next 6 full turns to the right. Any ideas. Thank you. (2.0 HDI Saloon)

I had a similar problem which took 4 visits to a dealer to cure because it was so intermittant. Ask your dealer to check for a loose jubile clip on the hose in the engine compartment at the bottom L/H side of radiator that is rattling on the metal chasis. The engineer at Citroen Stourbridge said he was going to put his findings on the Citroen UK database for other engineers to look for similar issues - Kevin Pugh from England
Having tried some snow chains on my C5, I caused a noise which persisted after the chains were removed. What had happened is there is a metal loop near the shocks which guides the brake hose. This loop can get bent such that it scapes the inside of the wheel when the steering is in certain positions. Just check if this is the problem and bend out of the way. Hope this is useful - Ben Clayton from Sussex

We have a Citroen C5 automatic and when the engine is switched on the passengers window automatically opens. We are unable to put it back up using the electrical switch on the passengers side and it can only be closed again when the engine is switched off, using the car key to close. Any ideas why this is?

I also have a Citroen C5 2002 and it appears the electric windows are a problem with the older models. When the passenger window doesn’t stay up, the only way I can fix it is by working it up from the driver’s side letting go until it reaches the top and then pull it again as if closing it and keeping my finger on it. Good luck - Sue from Herefordshire
Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then going through the recommended reconnecting sequence. This involves raising the windows and holding the button up to reset the height. Can’t remember the whole thing - Google it. Good luck! Ade from England

My battery keeps going flat every time I leave my car for more than about a hour. I have tried a different battery and the same thing happens. The battery tests OK and there is no fault with the alternator, it is charging at 14.4 volts. Does anyone else have this problem? (vtr)

My radio keeps rebooting. The small red light above the sos button lights when it does that and goes out when the radio turns itself back on. Any ideas why? The whole display screen goes black at the same time. The Citroen logo then displays as the radio is rebooting and then it goes back to showing whichever display was there before it turned itself off. Several times a day it does this. I use it as a taxi and so am in the vehicle all day. (VTX+)

Hi, I had the same fault with my C5 (’08 Plate). It was recified by the main dealer who updated the onboard computer software. Apparently, the initial factory download contained a few bugs. As soon as this was done (with new navigation map layout in the update), all was sorted and I’ve never had a problem since. My local main dealer couldn’t initially repair the problem until I insisted they contact Citroen Technical in France and received resolution. Hope this helps - Rod Nicholls from Devon

The multi funcion display that shows the time, temp, radio station etc in my C5 is working OK but not lighting up. I assume it is a faulty light bulb? Can anybody tell me how to replace the light bulb please?
Answers
Hi Duncan. Hope this helps. I have a 2004 C5 and experienced the same problem, you can remove the display and there are bulbs to the rear, these I replaced and everything worked okay - Graham Banks from England

I keep hearing horror stories about the C5 clutches being unreliable and costly. Could this be true?
Answers
Quite true - I am now on my 3rd clutch, each one having lasted about 30,000 miles, and costing £800+ to replace. Got the first under warranty, and after that Citroen didn’t want to know. Now on 75,000 miles - only 15,000 to go. In almost 60 years of motoring, never replaced a clutch on any car I have ever owned. The C5 clutch is a dud - Andrew MacKenzie from Dumfriesshire
Never had an issue with the clutch on my C5 and I’m on my third C5 - never had a single one go! Lilly Roper from London
Just parted with a 2.2, it had 120,000 on clock and clutch still as good as new. It pulled a caravan all over France and the UK but if you sit like a tw*t with your foot on the clutch at lights and in traffic jams, then so be it - Brian Ward from Durham
The C5 has a dual mass flywheel as do many other new cars, it is supposed to make the car smoother to drive. ALL makes and models that use dual mass flywheels wear, and as they do the clutch will start to slip. Best to get the flywheel welded solid when the clutch is changed - Ken C5 from England

What is the cost to repair the clutch (release bearing gone)?
Answers
Mine was done for about £300 at an indie garage. Thrust bearing went and needed replacing with a 3 part clutch kit. They also have a dual mass flywheel, if this needs changing it’s an extra couple hundred quid - Keith Fletcher from Yorkshire
