How do you turn the handbrake off, when the ignition is off, in order to change the rear brake pads on a Citroen C4 Picasso? Can you disconnect it from the rear, as I haven`t done one with an automatic handbrake before? I need help as my brake pads are on metal to metal. All of the other cars that I`ve owned have had a normal handbrake. I haven`t taken the wheel off yet to have a look. Are they harder to replace than normal pads? (hdi vtr+ auto)
Answers
Stop the engine, then turn on ingnition, put your foot on brake pedal, pull 2 times on hand brake lever, keep holding it back on second pull, wait till display is back to normal before turning off key or brake will go back on - Ian Thomson from Aberdeenshire

My Citroen C4 Picasso suffers a loss of engine power and shudders when I drive at 35 to 40 mph. When it`s switched off it won’t turn on again until it cools down. Diagnostics is showing a fault with the heater intake control motor. Is this a known or common fault? (1.6 HDI VTR)

My Citroen C4 Picasso shows a car symbol with 5 miles. What does this mean? I have had my tyres checked and they are fine, a service done and it has done less than 2000. Any ideas?

Is your car the Exclusive model with the fancy suspension? If so, it’s telling you that the suspension is too low and that you should not drive it until the suspension has raised. If it’s like mine it will suggest that the suspension airbags are faulty. For loads more info have a look at http://c4owners.org/plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?118866.0 - Peter from Staffordshire

We are about to drive to ski resort in our 2009 Citroen Grand C4 Picasso 7 seater and have been told the temperatures are -27 at the top of the mountain and people’s cars are freezing up. Can anyone tell me if we can put antifreeze into the diesel and what make and specification is advised by Citroen - as their lines are too busy to take customer calls today!!!

Hi. My car is a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 1.6hdi AUTO. It is having serious problems getting into first gear and makes some loud banging noises like its trying to get into gear but can’t and if does go into gear it shows it’s in A1 but won’t move off. But if it starts moving all the other gears are fine, it’s just when I try to move off there are loud noises but no movement? Could it be gearbox?

Hi, I have just bought a C4 Picasso and the cruise control is not working. I have asked the garage and been told that it only works on motorway. Can anyone tell if this is true? Many thanks.
Answers
Certainly not a true answer. My wife has an ’07 C4 Grand Picasso and I can get the cruise control on at 40 mph - Andy Johnston from Fife and Kinross Shires
On my 2004 C5, the cruise control only operates when in 4th, 5th or 6th gear, NOT in 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Perhaps your C4 is the same - TC from Dorset
Hi, cruise control is mainly for long journeys to let you relax. It will always go off everytime you tap your brake pad and you will be in control again. The reason why it is not working in low speed when you try is because when it starts, you are most likely hitting the brakes and will stop again. Take it on dual carriageway, it will be fine - Mo Khan from Berkshire
Cruise control only operates in 4th or 5th gear. I have the 03 Xsara and is operated from the stalk below the indicators. A detailed instruction on how to use it will be in your vehicle manual - Graham Wall from Kent

I have a Citroen Grand Picasso and was intrigued to read a meassage on the dash that the battery was low in the remote key fob. I looked up the action required in the handbook and it said to replace the battery. I took the old battery out (which actually did still work) took it to the shops to make sure I got the same type and when I came home and put the new battery in and guess what it won’t work and what’s worse the old battery now does not work either and what is even worse I phoned the Citroen dealership garage and they say they will have to charge me to re-program it! and it’s still under warranty - can you believe this - is there a solution?

Same problem, it seems to be a common problem after 3 years and when the warranty run out. Suspension drops, reset at the back in the boot push button but it’s probably a leak in the suspension dozer. I have found many issues like that, seems to be a design issue, have to bring the car in on Monday, bloody nightmare, I think it’s a design issue, defo won’t buy a Citroen again, might brake again in 3 years time - Jason Shaw from England

Suddenly the brakes are coming up as misfunctioning and even the handbrake cannot be engaged. The problem is also affecting the EGS gearbox - it doesn’t work on automatic. The engineers tell me it’s a known fault on this model, has anyone else experienced it? (2.0 Hdi Exclusive)

How do you use the electronic brake in the Grand C4? I’m due to get mine on Monday and the sales man did not say anything about it having no manual handbrake. I am now worried if I will be able to manage it. Can you please inform of use? Thank you.
Answers
The electronic brake is activated by a switch which you pull on the dashboard just below the centre display. This puts on the handbrake. When you switch off the engine the handbrake engages automatically. When you put the car in gear and move off the handbrake disengages automatically. The car has a novel point. when stopped on a hill, holding the car on the footbrake, you have two seconds hold time, allowing you to move your foot from the footbrake to the accelerator without rolling back or forward. Beware though, when to put the car in gear and bring the clutch into balance the handbrake will disengage, so on a hill, only put the car into gear when you are ready to pull off as any indecision will disengage the handbrake. So, on hill start you have to bring the clutch into balance and hold the car. If you cannot do this then leave the car in neutral and only go into gear when you can move off safely. Bringing the clutch into balance and then dipping it again will relase the handbrake and you WILL roll back. Get the garage to demonstrate this BEFORE you take ownership - Good luck, Brian Oldknow from Nottinghamshire

My C4 is a lovely car but the asr/eps light and alarm are coming on. I went to my mechanic and was told that either the steering wheel was not sitting straight and this could cause the problem. They put the car on the computerised tracking system and the fault is still there. They then plugged the car into the computer and the steering fault is still coming up. I don’t know what to do about this, has anyone any ideas? (1.6 HDi VTR+)
