I have CITROEN C3 Pluriel (2004) that i recently bought, and i found that i have the following problem: Sometimes, when i try to start my car, it seems like the key is not functioning. i can turn it in the lock only up to the point where it only gives contact, but i can not start the car. It helped to get out of the car, lock and unlock the door with the same key, then again go in and try - and the car can be started. Does anyone have encountered a similar problem with Pluriel? if you have - can you explain to me what the problem is, and what is the solution?

Answer this question

sharon, Kent

Citroen C3 Pluriel

Hi, firstly it started with the driver`s door not opening. I had it checked, was told it needed a new BSI computer fitted £600 for cost and £300 to fit. So another mechanic suggested it just needed new door mechanisms and this was done, but guess what it was the BSI computer, so I had that fitted by a car door mechanic and his friend who re-booted the computer, cost me £900 for it all. Now the boot does not open and the power steering does not work (this had been an intermittent fault since I got it but usually cured itself by turning the ignition off and on again). So now what to do? I need someone who can look at the computer and re-boot again, but will not cost me another shed load of money. Here is the sorry tale as I loved my car, my late husband bought it for me and I am now on my own struggling to fund and or fix it! Oh and it beeps at various times for no reason! Help please, anyone local to me here in Kent? Thanks

Answers

Sharon, there are instructions on the internet regarding resetting the BSI computer, take careful note & follow the instructions. It'd save you a load if money to do it yourself. So far on my Pluriel I've had to change the rear window mechanism, aerial, stereo & a few other small jobs. I now have roof problems (won't close or open properly & nasty loud rattle from rear right of roof) and of course that means the boot won't open either! Suz from Kent

Answer this question

Smiler, Dorset

Citroen C3 Pluriel

I bought my car in September 2014 and love. However, recently it wouldn't start. I could not select N it just had a dash and a star above where the N sign should be. I called out the AA and after some head he checked the battery and said it was at full power. After an hour or so of head scratching he could not work out what it was. In desperation he disconnected the battery and left it for about 15 minutes and then reconnected and it started. He said it could be a problem that the car had turned to Eco mode. However, the same problem happened again this morning and the second AA man came and looked, disconnected the battery, but this time the car would not go to N. He tried very and was very frustrated. After almost 2 hours we agreed that there was nothing he could do. Has anyone else had the same experience as if so what was the solution?????

Hi, I have had my Pluriel since 2008. It was a new car but the boot leaked from day one. I now keep an old plastic mat on the floor of the boot to protect it from getting wet. Everything apart from that went well until a fortnight ago when the boot would not open. Within a day or so I had reason to let back the top and it became stuck and would not close. The garage put these problems right but I was told that the windscreen wipers would not turn off and the central locking was not working. The whole repair cost £1143.77. I have just got my car back only to find that the petrol gauge is not working and according to the mileage the 2-3 miles I travelled from the supermarket clocked up about 10 miles. Can anyone suggest how I reset the mileage without the need to return it to the garage and incur more debt?

Hi, since buying my car I`ve had issues locking it, the fob never worked. Not a problem but I decided maybe change the fob battery so my other half removed the chip etc to replace the battery. I forgot this and went to go out in the car. Tried starting it but it wouldn`t fire so I remembered the chip, put it back in the fob as it all was and still the car won`t fire up. Hubby has disconnected the battery and still no joy. Does anyone know how we can get it to start now please?

Whilst driving my Citroen C3 Pluriel (55Plate) automatic this morning, a loud bleeping noise and a symbol like an ice alert starts flashing above auto symbol N, you cannot change gear automatically or by use of the pedals or gear lever? After a short time it won`t change gear, goes into neutral and won`t move. Lights and dashboard lights are still coming on, again with a symbol that looks like an ice alert, but it won`t turn over. I've called AA who told me there were a number of different causes, including the gearbox ECU, sender unit, or even the battery? They came out and attended me, but couldn't find any fault codes when they plugged into their device. I use my vehicle for mobility due to my disability, so it`s important I can rely on it Any ideas or suggestions please?

Recently my car has not been starting- the engine turns over but doesn't actually start quite often. The battery is fully charged, car up to date with the servicing etc.Today it wouldn't start for about 20 minutes, but it did start when I pressed the accelerator pedal whilst turning it on, and then had no problems starting 3 more times that day without doing that.I am meant to be driving 400 miles tomorrow and wondered if anyone had any advice of what I could do/ whether anyone has experienced the same problems? I really don't want that to happen miles from anywhere. It has done this a few times before in some really inappropriate places (often if it happens to stall) and I'm juts a bit worried about driving too far in it? I would appreciate any possible advice!

It's just possible you have a hairline crack in the cylinder head if you're not losing too much water. There's a brilliant product out there called K Seal, about £15 per bottle. Add to the expansion tank, run for a few miles, hey presto. No more leak. Just did it on my Astra CDTI which was losing about 1 inch per week, brilliant. Wigs from Cornwall

Hi my citroen pluriel has been making a rattleing sound from inside the engine like the cam shaft or somthing is worn out. My car has done 60,000 miles on the clock. It started off a little rattle now it sounds much louder I feel like the engine will blow up. But im not sure what it is. Also can the cars milomiter be clocked as it is digital. The timing belt hasent been changed but due by 80,000. The cars power seems to be ok not noticed a change. One more thing the clutch is nearly gone but this wouldnt cause the noise. It happens if the clutch is down aswell as up. In and out of gear. When I rev the engine you can here the rattle speed up. Im prety sure its not altenator. Definatly from within the engine block. Could this happen due to the timing slipping. Please help guys thankyou

Hi, had the same problem and figured it out. It is because of the roof switch, sounds funny I know. So, when you open your roof (no matter all the way or just a little bit) the boot lock thinks that the roof is now inside and locks it so that it wouldnt open while driving...it doesnt make sense and im not sure whether its only my car is faulty or thats the way electronics are... So what you need to do is press on the roof switch when the roof is already closed and when i say press i mean as a button do not turn it to either side you will hear the click in your boot should open straight away or try a few more times. It happens when you touch your roof switch when the engine is off so you dont see the roof moving but the switch is moved and I think that confuses the whole locking system. Hope it helps! My Citroen C3 Pluriel was making a whirring sound from a belt and a squeak which we asuumed was the fan belt as my partner`s old Corsa made similar noises when his fan belt went kaput. We had someone check the fan belt and it wasn’t in need of replacing. We went to start the car yesterday and it started after a few tries and went into gear but wouldn`t move in any gear with foot on the accelerator at any position fully depressed or just slightly pumped. The whirring and squeaking has got worse when it turns over. A friend who is quite mechanical suggested drive or cam belt. I wondered if anyone has had this problem?

Had the same problem myself, but cracked it this evening. Gently prise off the trim for the door mirror mounting. Gently remove the trim around the interior door release. Remove the speaker grille and speaker to reveal two screws behind the speaker holding the bottom of the door card. Unscrew the large torque screw near the door release (revealed in step 2) and firmly the slide the long tubular handle forwards along its length to remove. This will reveal two further torque screws which are the ones I think you struggled with. All the rest is down to unclipping standard plastics clips which may break as you pull the card away from the door. Good luck! Alan from Derbyshire

Hi there. My wife bought a Citroen C3 Pluriel with sensor drive and all`s fine except the idle speed seems too low, causing it to roll back when at junctions on slight hills. The problem is my wife only drives automatics so the need to find a biting point seems a waste in an automatic car. Any ideas? The garage said they changed the sensor causing it to stall. Could this be the same problem?

Answers

It`s not a proper automatic so you can`t hold it on a hill without it rolling back, you have to learn to start using your handbrake. Apart from that it should be fine. With the senso drive even dirty jets can cause problems. I am thinking your sensor may not have been at fault when you were cutting out, you just needed an injector cleaner - the garage may have just done that. Keep your injectors clean with a petrol additive. When you fill up it could save you a garage bill! TOM from Lancashire

My Citroen C3 Pluriel has a warning engine too hot. I`ve had it for 4 months. In the last two months I`ve had a problem with the engine too hot warning - it only seems to happen after going up a hill, the car seems fine going over the tops then as descending down the other side the warning light appears. Instance 1 - it was raining heavily, car warning came on after ten minutes of driving. I stopped the car, fan was on and cooled the car down. Waited for recovery. Blowers were only warm, he refilled coolant and squeezed pipes until blowers ran hot and the car seemed fine. Instance 2 - after being caught in a crossfire between another car and a huge puddle that came over the car roof I started descending down a large hill, at halfway down the warning light came on. I stopped the car, fan was on, car cooled down and I drove home. Checked coolant, it was low so I topped up and all was fine. Instance 3 - driving down a hill again. Instance 4 ditto, coolant level is fine on this occasion. Do you think the recovery chap put air into the system but then I wonder where the coolant went initially? (Cote dazure)

My Citroen C3 Pluriel automatic won`t change gear and won`t move. Lights and dashboard lights are still coming on but it won`t turn over. I called RAC who told me there were four gearbox problems, in place of N there is a "-" and it won`t move from there. I got the garage to tow it and on trying to get it up on the ramp they rocked it and it started. I phoned the garage later and was told when getting it off the tow truck it wouldn`t start again. I have now been told they stripped the gear box and I need a gear selector module which is going to cost over £800 with vat. A new gearbox was fitted in 2011, is this the only option?
