Hi all, I recently ran the battery flat after leaving the lights on. I've since charged it up and despite a new battery it won't start. It's like there is a kill switch activated. I have tried unlocking and locking it up but still no luck. Are there any other tips/tricks that might get it going again? Cheers

Hi my citroen pluriel has been making a rattleing sound from inside the engine like the cam shaft or somthing is worn out. My car has done 60,000 miles on the clock. It started off a little rattle now it sounds much louder I feel like the engine will blow up. But im not sure what it is. Also can the cars milomiter be clocked as it is digital. The timing belt hasent been changed but due by 80,000. The cars power seems to be ok not noticed a change. One more thing the clutch is nearly gone but this wouldnt cause the noise. It happens if the clutch is down aswell as up. In and out of gear. When I rev the engine you can here the rattle speed up. Im prety sure its not altenator. Definatly from within the engine block. Could this happen due to the timing slipping. Please help guys thankyou

Answers

Drop the back seats to gain access to the boot area , remove the rear trim on the hatch panel and you will see two solenoids, one either side. Simply push one at a time and you will release the hatch. This won't fix it but will gain you access. Steve from Staffordshire

Hi, had the same problem and figured it out. It is because of the roof switch, sounds funny I know. So, when you open your roof (no matter all the way or just a little bit) the boot lock thinks that the roof is now inside and locks it so that it wouldnt open while driving...it doesnt make sense and im not sure whether its only my car is faulty or thats the way electronics are... So what you need to do is press on the roof switch when the roof is already closed and when i say press i mean as a button do not turn it to either side you will hear the click in your boot should open straight away or try a few more times. It happens when you touch your roof switch when the engine is off so you dont see the roof moving but the switch is moved and I think that confuses the whole locking system. Hope it helps! My Citroen C3 Pluriel was making a whirring sound from a belt and a squeak which we asuumed was the fan belt as my partner`s old Corsa made similar noises when his fan belt went kaput. We had someone check the fan belt and it wasn’t in need of replacing. We went to start the car yesterday and it started after a few tries and went into gear but wouldn`t move in any gear with foot on the accelerator at any position fully depressed or just slightly pumped. The whirring and squeaking has got worse when it turns over. A friend who is quite mechanical suggested drive or cam belt. I wondered if anyone has had this problem?

The lights and wipers operate normally, but when I switch it to auto mode the lights come on immediately, regardless of how bright the day is and the wipers will not operate except on normal intermittent mode. Any ideas on how to get to the sensor to check it/replace it? (variomatic)

Can anyone help me with details of how to remove the door cards on the Citroen C3 Pluriel? I like to think I am not clueless and managed to get most of the clips and fasteners loose, but there was something holding the cards firmly towards the rear of the door cards which did not want to come easily. There is obviously some form of fastener there but I ran out of time so I put it back. Any help please? (Exclusive)

Had the same problem myself, but cracked it this evening. Gently prise off the trim for the door mirror mounting. Gently remove the trim around the interior door release. Remove the speaker grille and speaker to reveal two screws behind the speaker holding the bottom of the door card. Unscrew the large torque screw near the door release (revealed in step 2) and firmly the slide the long tubular handle forwards along its length to remove. This will reveal two further torque screws which are the ones I think you struggled with. All the rest is down to unclipping standard plastics clips which may break as you pull the card away from the door. Good luck! Alan from Derbyshire

Hi there. My wife bought a Citroen C3 Pluriel with sensor drive and all`s fine except the idle speed seems too low, causing it to roll back when at junctions on slight hills. The problem is my wife only drives automatics so the need to find a biting point seems a waste in an automatic car. Any ideas? The garage said they changed the sensor causing it to stall. Could this be the same problem?

Answers

It`s not a proper automatic so you can`t hold it on a hill without it rolling back, you have to learn to start using your handbrake. Apart from that it should be fine. With the senso drive even dirty jets can cause problems. I am thinking your sensor may not have been at fault when you were cutting out, you just needed an injector cleaner - the garage may have just done that. Keep your injectors clean with a petrol additive. When you fill up it could save you a garage bill! TOM from Lancashire

My Citroen C3 Pluriel has a warning engine too hot. I`ve had it for 4 months. In the last two months I`ve had a problem with the engine too hot warning - it only seems to happen after going up a hill, the car seems fine going over the tops then as descending down the other side the warning light appears. Instance 1 - it was raining heavily, car warning came on after ten minutes of driving. I stopped the car, fan was on and cooled the car down. Waited for recovery. Blowers were only warm, he refilled coolant and squeezed pipes until blowers ran hot and the car seemed fine. Instance 2 - after being caught in a crossfire between another car and a huge puddle that came over the car roof I started descending down a large hill, at halfway down the warning light came on. I stopped the car, fan was on, car cooled down and I drove home. Checked coolant, it was low so I topped up and all was fine. Instance 3 - driving down a hill again. Instance 4 ditto, coolant level is fine on this occasion. Do you think the recovery chap put air into the system but then I wonder where the coolant went initially? (Cote dazure)

My Citroen C3 Pluriel automatic won`t change gear and won`t move. Lights and dashboard lights are still coming on but it won`t turn over. I called RAC who told me there were four gearbox problems, in place of N there is a "-" and it won`t move from there. I got the garage to tow it and on trying to get it up on the ramp they rocked it and it started. I phoned the garage later and was told when getting it off the tow truck it wouldn`t start again. I have now been told they stripped the gear box and I need a gear selector module which is going to cost over £800 with vat. A new gearbox was fitted in 2011, is this the only option? Can anybody please help urgently?

Hi, I hope someone can help me? My Citroen C3 Pluriel broke down when it had rained and was wet. It would turn over but wouldn`t go anywhere. I found out the ecu was wet and it had no battery cover over it. I got the car back and the ecu was wet again, so I changed the 02 sensor and now the garage are saying have I had a windscreen replacement and maybe it`s leaking into the bonnet? It starts sometimes but then other times it doesn’t. Please can anyone give me some advice as my local garage said they won’t help anymore?

Our fab mobile Mechanic, fixed a cutout piece of curved plastic oil drum over top, fastened with cable ties - doesn’t look pretty when open the bonnet but it works MOST effectively at ensuring water run-off & keeping water out. Our much loved Pluriel 1.4 manual ’04, we’ve had since new has never run better! Our much hated BH23 Citroen dealer hasn’t seen us since. That was 3 years ago - after 3 years of recurring annual problems as soon as it rained ... first via AA replacements, then countless main dealer replacements - it’s not the part, it’s a design fault. It needed a weather cover. TG for a decent mechanic with logical thinking. A simple solution to an expensive problem Amy Nonimess from England

I recently purchased a Citroen C3 Pluriel and I love it: The problem is that I’ve had a leak on both sides which appears to come from the lining of the doors. They leave little puddles in the footwells and it has started to smell damp. The biggest problem is that yesterday my roof jammed open and I’ve been unable to close it since. I took it to my local garage who managed to close it for now but say that I need to take it to a Citroen dealer, but this will cost around £3000! Does anyone know someone in the South Wales area that may be able to help? Or any other suggestions? Thanks.

Need some advice please. My C3 keeps leaking from the tailgate rear boot. One garage told me to replace the rear window. Another garage has told me that this is not the problem. So far no one has been able to fix the problem. Has anyone else had this issue and if so how did they fix it?

Answers

My Fix for Pluriels leaking water into the boot. This is my opinion, as a mechanical engineer, on why our Pluriel leaks into it’s boot space. It is based on a sample of one, but appears correct. Design fault: the outer plastic cover at the bottom of the rear hatch is sealed with a very viscous, non- setting mastic. At the sides this cover only touches the inner piece along it’s edge, which then relies on the sticky mastic to provide a perfect join. Unfortunately this seal is critical, as above it is a crevice which allows rain coming off the glass, or the slider tracks either side of the glass, to drain sideways. On our Pluriel the mastic clearly had not sealed adequately, as there was water in the chamber inside it, which eventually gets into the boot. My fix: Strip and rebuild using black bathroom silicone sealer. This is much less viscous and allows better seating., and better sealing if not fully seated. It may be more problematic to remove should the situation ever arise though. Black "Sikoflex" would be a nicer and more professional gunge. Remove plastic cover along bottom of hatch on the inside. Remove 4 nuts (8mm hex) that hold on outer cover. Working from each end carefully and slowly prise outer cover off, you are easing away the mastic bond here. You’ll probably want a few decent sized flat screwdrivers. Note the cover is very weak in the middle due to the hole for rubber cover for the opening button. Clean the mastic from the upper edge and ends of the outer cover, and on the inner moulding where it mates. This is a horrible job best done with lots of small cotton rags (old denim worked well). There’s no need to remove all the mastic (you won’t want to) though if you’ve ever got it on your hands when closing the bootlid you could lean it off the bottom edge too. There is also a foam rubber piece at each end that would be better for cleaning and siliconing, this is possibly an additional leak path. When ready, build up a good thickness of silicone to seat the cover in, especially on the inside at the ends. Stick the foam pieces in with a generous siliconing. Also put a small run of silicon along the width of the bottom of the glass. Then assemble the outer cover onto the silicone, and hold on with the 4 nuts. Press down to bed into the silicone and what’ s left of the mastic. I pulled apiece of thin card through the horizontal gap between the cover and the side frame of the glass, to ensure this drain crevice is still clear. Then apply a bead of silicone between the bottom edge of the glass and the cove in the normal bathroom fashion. (use tape to restrict smear, then mould with finger lubricated with washing-up water). Result: No leaks, OE look finish.! Possible alternative, simpler method: (untried) It may be possible to simply pump the end crevice at the bottom of the side bar full of silicone, making sure it links the side bar to Cover, and the glass. Use masking tape and washup liquid coated finger to get clean finish, as in bathroom silicone. This would mean the cover does not have to be removed, but water may collect on the cover at the bottom of the glass, especially if parked facing downhill. The sprung cover for the roof slider may need prising out at it’s bottom end to ensure silicone does not build up behind it, and possibly snipping by a few mm if the silicone stops it squashing downward in action Harry Shuttle from Yorkshire

Since I have got it back from the garage these 3 beeps have been present and the car has also struggled to start. Any suggestions as to what could be the problem? I bought my Citroen C3 Pluriel last Friday and this Friday morning it is now in the garage as the coil spring has broken. Luckily I had just come out my drive when I heard it clunk on the ground. When I spoke to the garage I suggested it was part of the suspension, only to be told it wasn’t and that it happens all the time to cars. I’m not quite convinced as I have been driving a long time and it`s always been a Ford car and this has never happened. I have now lost faith in the car and would like to know if this is a common fault with these types of cars? If so I’m trading it in straight away.

Sit in the drivers seat with all the keys and all the doors shut, radio off, no lights, everything OFF. Insert a key into the ignition, Turn ON the ignition, Press and hold the LOCK button on the key for TEN seconds. Turn off the ignition and remove the key. My daughter has Pluriel - nice car - BUT - get a Toyota Corrolla = trouble free motoring Neal Baj from Warwickshire

Lovely versatile car. I have had mine 7 years without trouble but since it is 10 years old the roof struts are worn and it will have to be replaced. It leaks a little at times otherwise no problems. anton tordy from Devon

Today when I went to drive my Citroen C3 Pluriel the steering was very heavy. I managed to get home where I parked up. I left the car for about 20 minutes, restarted it and the steering was back to normal. Any idea what the problem could be?

Citroen C3 Pluriel 2004

I have a Citroen C3 Pluriel 1.6L Sensodrive with gearbox symptoms. The car tries to start but doesn’t, the central locking will not work, the alarm goes off when I manually unlock the car etc, the battery light flashs on the dashboard and displays that the car is in ’Eco Mode’ and the electric windows will not work. I have tried without success jump leads, new batteries in the keys and resyncing the orginal keys and new keys (I`ve been told the keys are transmitting a good signal but the car isn’t responding at all). Any suggestions? Thanks. (1.6L Sensodrive Gearbox)

This happended with my C3 Pluriel and after trying most of what you did I eventually contacted a mobile auto electrician. Ten minutes later with a brand new battery fitted on car all worked again - plus he only charged a call out fee of 20 pounds plus the cost of a really good quality battery which through him was cheaper than anyone else could provide Nikki from Lancashire

My Citroen C3 Pluriel has been beeping for a while now. The auto with a snowflake at the top has been flashing on and and off and when I stop the car won`t go into gear or reverse, it revs but nothing happens. Normally after waiting about 30 minutes with the car turned off it will work again, but this will happen again if driving for more than 30 minutes. Today I waited and then when I tried to turn it on the brake would not push down to be able to start, so now it`s on the side of the road. I don`t know how to get it going again. Any advice please?

Our Pluriel has just done same thing. AA man disconnected then reconnected battery and it seems to have resolved the problem. Did you get any solution to your problem? Andrew Peck from England

I also tried disconnecting the battery, with no affect! Has anyone got this resolved ? What is it? Keri Fowler King from Yorkshire

I have had the same problem with my 2003 Plurial a couple of years a go. It stopped in Melbourne about an hour and a half from where I live. It would not go into any gear, forward or reverse. Anyway, I had it towed to my Citroen dealer, in Melbourne. After they had it for another day trying to find the problem they updated the software for the sensordrive from Citroen France and it hasn’t missed a beat since then (3 years ago, touch wood) Danny from Australia

Okay, thanks. I will try that then! What does it cost to get this software?! I was thinking of selling, thought I would need a new gear box but if it’s cheap enough to get the software I will do that? Keri Fowler King from Yorkshire

Does anyone know what I need to fix the passenger seat of my Citroen C3 Pluriel? The local garage just tell me something is broken and it will cost loads to replace! The seat back will not lock into position and the whole seat keeps sliding on the runners unless the back is completely reclined. Can anyone tell me what to do?

Answers

We thought ours was broken, it isn’t... there are two flip handles on the seat, they do different things.. spend a bit of time, eventually it will lock in place again Mandy Jones from England
