Performance

The 2.0 litre diesel unit matched with the manual gearbox makes the Sportage an eager performer , it retains a feel of a large , executive 4x4 whilst actually being nowhere near as large or expensive. The car is designed in manual guise to be driven enthusiastically and is indeed nippy around town along with being relatively smooth on the motorway. There is plenty of low down torque from the 2.0 diesel engine should you need it, but unusually for a diesel unit, the engine does not seem to mind being pushed further up the rev range. The note emitted from the twin sports exhausts is also a pleasure to behold!

Ride & Handling

The ride is firmer in the Titan and handling is actually quite sharp and precise. This particular version of the Sportage is built with more sporty intentions than the rest of the range and this is detectable in just about every aspect of the vehicle.

Build Quality & Reliability

With this being the top of the range Titan model it had the feel of a much more expensive vehicle whilst obviously being much cheaper than it’s premium marque rivals. Reliability does not look to be an issue with the Sportage.

Safety & Security

What more can you say! Airbags everywhere (six in total) and a substantial car to protect you should there be an accident! The XS is the only model to come with stability control although traction control is standard on all.

Space & Practicality

Generously equipped for both rear and front passengers along with the driver. The increased height of the Sportage offers more room for five adults and the boot is easy to use and large enough for most families. The rear seats fold flat to create a very large load-space and there is the added bonus of a rear window that opens so you can easily load light items in tight spaces.

Ownership & Value

One to keep for a few years if you are going to buy. This way you would take advantage of the warranty and Kia’s reputation for rock solid reliability. This strategy may also protect you from any dips in depreciation on the more expensive models. Prices are low, running costs are reasonable and there are high level of equipment. Add to all this the seven-year warranty and the Kia Sportage represents excellent value for money.
