The Audi A6 performed brilliantly on the 180 mile round trip that was made up mainly of A roads & motorways. The car was a pleasure to drive and effortlessly ate up the miles. The 2.0 litre diesel was very responsive at all levels considering this was a large car. The engine slowly sipped one gallon of diesel every 48 miles according to the on board computer.
The car was comfortable to drive and was equally comfortable as a front seat passenger. The back seats were more than ample. Handling was great, although the ride was a little firm. This was probably due to the sport options & lower profile wide wheels & tyres.
Build quality was as you would expect for a quality German car. The cabin was beautifully finished to a very high standard with a sporty quality feel. The level of equipment was very good.
The car felt solid and safe. Airbags were positioned everywhere in the cabin. Brakes were excellent. The car scores a 5 star rating in the EuroNCAP crash tests.
The car is probably one of the most practical and spacious in its class. Space in the cabin is fabulous, plenty of legroom to stretch out fully and more than enough room on the back for several sets of golf clubs!
The A6 offers very good value for money in the large executive saloon class. Driving the car was a pleasure – especially on long journeys.

For such a big vehicle the 2.0 litre diesel engine performs admirably. This particular engine is predominantly aimed at those with economy in mind but the 140 BHP it kicks out is more than enough for most every day drivers. There is also a 2.7 litre and 3.0 litre diesel if you fancy something with more punch and less MPG.
We drove the S-line version which has a much firmer ride than the SE model due to it’s larger wheels and stiffer suspension. For those drivers with comfort at the top of their priority list the SE model is probably the one to have however you will miss out on the super sharp handling the S-Line model provides.
As ever with Audi it is the excellent build quality of the vehicle which grabs you the minute you step into the vehicle and doesn’t leave you until the moment you finish your journey. The cabin is decked out in a mix of soft touch materials, brushed aluminium and leather whilst the stereo and all other electrical components appear to be built from the same quality rock solid mould as the rest of the car. Reliability really isn’t an issue unless you completely neglect the car and refuse to have it serviced……..EVER!
Our car had the reverse parking sensors fitted, which on a car of this size I would imagine is a feature every driver could benefit from. If I was a car thief ( which I’m not) I wouldn’t fancy my chances of breaking into the thing and then subsequently driving it away any time soon. Occupants of the car are shielded from potential danger by a sea of airbags whilst every driver aid imaginable is fitted as standard.
The boot and cabin are both huge with plenty of leg room in the back and front of the car. If you were an inner city driver and parking space was at a premium this may not be the car for you due to it’s size alone.
There is no doubt that this car costs a few quid more than your average Ford or Vauxhall. Then again there is equally no doubt that it is a far superior vehicle in just about every way. Good solid residual values on particularly the diesel model make this a tempting prospect for both owners and company car drivers. Contract Hire rates on the SE model are particularly strong sometimes below the £300 per month mark which for a car of this class is EXTREMELY GOOD VALUE! DVD Sat-Nav now comes as a free upgrade!

This was a big car for a 2.0 Turbo Diesel engine, but at no time did this car feel under powered. The engine has a large amount of torque and pulls strongly from low revs, which means cruising is effortless.
The ride was firm as you would expect from a sport version but was not uncomfortable. The Audi is a large car, but was nimble with a lot of feel back through the steering wheel. Quiet at all speeds with little wind noise.
This car felt like it had been hewn out of a solid block of Granite, all the controls and buttons have a high quality feel. The panel gaps were all uniform and the interior had no rattles even over the roughest roads.
Audi’s safety record is legendary with all the latest safety features, Abs, air bags all over the place. The security system is state of the art, even down to a push button start do to the high security key.
Huge amount of space even for the rear seat passengers, and I am 6’3” and have the seat right back. The boot is enormous and could fit several large suitcases with ease.
Owning this car would be a pleasure and I can tell you it was a wrench having to hand it back.
