What are classic cars?

Classic car enthusiasm is a past time that continues to grow in popularity with more fan clubs and shows being added to the calendar each year, with fan clubs ranging from a Morris miner owners club to a Volkswagen Beetle owners club! Such is the magnitude of classic enthusiasm as a hobby many insurance providers now offer specific classic car insurance.

For car owners interested in classic cars but are not quite sure what defines a ‘classic’ car a visit to a local classic car show can do much to give a clearer understanding. The most popular classic cars that are likely to be on show are generally cars such as MGB’s, vintage Jags and Triumphs with the majority of fans paying the money to see these types of cars. However with more people becoming interested in classic cars all the time more modern cars are being added to the list of ‘classic’ cars with cars such as the Toyota MR2 and similar cars of this era having their own following of fans. Reading classic car magazines can also give a good understanding of the types of cars that are referred to as ‘classic; and the mass number of people that are involved in this hobby.

Classic car owners often vary also with some dedicating a lot of time and money (with some spending far too much) on their cars. Whilst on the other hand some classic car owners have their classic just for some fun, modifying it and giving it a good run around whenever they get the free time. The most hardcore classic car enthusiasts often spend a lot of their income purchasing, renovating and maintaining a number of classic cars so that they can take them to the main show piece events and have pride amongst their fellow enthusiasts. Tied in with the cost of the cars is the cost of running the many clubs that are in operation up and down the country!
