SaveMoneyOnCars.co.uk advises car buyers not to be a plate snob!
With the new 09 registration plate imminent – traditionally the busiest time for new car sales-SaveMoneyOnCars.co.uk is advising consumers that there has never been a better time to buy a new car.
The leading new and nearly new car website has seen some tremendous deals advertised on the website over the last few weeks. For those willing to forego the opportunity to have a new 09 registration, there are plenty of bargains around.
SaveMoneyOnCars.co.uk tells why now is such a great time to buy a new car:
1. VAT cut. Most manufacturers are passing this cut on. A £15,000 car is now £375 cheaper, while this is not a huge figure, it is better in your pocket.
2. Although manufacturers are scaling back production in line with demand, there is still a glut of cars available which dealers are keen to shift. This has triggered a surge in special offers and cut prices.
3. Although stumping up the cash to buy a new car may seem like a headache, new cars are predominately cheaper to run. There are plenty of green cars which pay lower road tax, business taxation and will get significantly better miles to the galloon.
4. Interest rates are at a historic low of 1 per cent meaning that financers can offer more attractive rates on a loan to buy a car.
5. Saving rates have reduced, meaning that saving cash is not as attractive as it once was. For those with cash stashed away, now is a good time to get spending.
6. Just before a new registration plate is due out is traditionally a very quiet time for the industry. This is even more marked ahead of the March change of plate, when consumers are still recovering from the financial pressures caused by Christmas and are willing to wait for the plate which reflects the current year.
7. The situation is not set to continue. As production of new cars falls and residuals on used cars recover, the value of all cars will also pick up. As consumer spending recovers, so will the prices.
SaveMoneyOnCars.co.uk is advising car buyers not to be a plate snob. By selecting to wait on the new 09 registration, buyers could restrict their budget and choice of car when the plate comes available. By waiting, they could be missing out on some never-to-be-repeated deals.
As an example of a great deal recently advertised on the website, the Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 Exclusiv, 150 diesel, 58 plate, brand new is available for £11,999 saving £5906 against the list price.
Alternatively there is the Ford Focus 1.6 Style, 100ps, five door, 58 plate, brand new is available for £10,995 saving £4611 against the list price.*
“The current conditions in the automotive industry are probably never to be repeated, buyers have the opportunity to grab themselves a bargain,” explains Richard Lawton, Marketing Manager of SaveMoneyOnCars.co.uk.
“Selecting to wait on the new plate leaves buyers exposed to same value-eroding factors that any new car is exposed to, but with a higher purchase price- this effect is amplified. You can buy a great pre-registered car now which offers everything a 09 registration plate car offers.”

I agree. After a few months, the 09 plate is outdated anyway.
Of course, if you’re feeling self conscious about buying a car that’s a few months old… a personalised number plate can be used to hide the age of the car. The saving can be used to buy a relatively inexpensive number plate (Irish number plates start from around £150). And no one will know the age of the car.
