Car dealership group Eastern Western is celebrating a successful year as its first Mazda dealership becomes one of the top three volume dealerships for Mazda in the UK, after just one year in operation.

Located in Edinburgh, the Western Mazda dealership is in a prime location, close to the famous Murrayfield rugby staduim which is home to Scotland’s international matches.

Despite 2010 being a challenging year to open a dealership, the centre experienced roaring trade with excellent feedback from sales and service customers.

"One trend we have identified is that Mazda customers are very loyal and were absolutely delighted to have a new Mazda outlet in such a prime spot," explained Western Mazda’s Dealer Principal, John La Trobe.

"Mazda UK is also a great company to work with – always ready to listen and provide help when they can. Now with the upgraded Mazda3 on the way and then a whole new range of SKYACTIV models starting with CX-5 in the spring. I really think our second year as a Mazda dealer will be exciting and see us continue to grow and develop this new business."

Eastern Western first started to talk to Mazda more than 10 years ago because it was a brand the group felt had great potential for growth. Eastern Western’s reputation for customer service has been built up since the business was founded in 1927. Today the company is a family owned, regionally focussed Group representing 17 franchises across Central Scotland, Tayside, the Borders and North East England.

Mazda is offering a special ‘Pay no VAT’ offer on most models in its line-up; from its supermini Mazda2 to its saloon model Mazda6. On top of this the Japanese car maker is also offering great finance deals including a 0 per cent APR finance deal over four years with a 30 per cent deposit.

The brand’s range now starts from just £8,672 on-the-road.

The ‘Pay no VAT’ campaign was launched for diesel Mazda6 models in November, and has now been extended to include the Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda5 and Mazda MX-5 models registered from now until 29 February 2012. All Mazda6 petrol and diesel models will also be available with no VAT, 0 per cent APR until 31 March 2012.

“The ‘Pay no VAT’ campaign makes a really compelling offer to consumers, saving them up to £4,000,” comments Peter Allibon, Sales Director, Mazda UK. “There has never been a better time to buy a brand new Mazda and extending the offer across much of the range means everyone can benefit from the ‘Pay no VAT’ campaign, whether motorists are purchasing the super-practical Mazda5 or the sporty two-seater Mazda MX-5 roadster.

“We are confident that no VAT together with our 0% APR finance offer will attract large numbers of newcomers to the Mazda brand. It will also reward existing Mazda owners, as many of them will be able to benefit from ‘zero cost to change’ when trading in their current cars for a brand new Mazda. Customers should visit their local dealership to check which models will be available under this programme and book a test drive,” adds Allibon.

This latest ‘Pay no VAT’ offer is available only on selected Mazda models while stocks last and must end on 29 February 2012 (31 March 2012 for selected Mazda6 models). As well as offering 0% APR finance on Conditional Sale (with a 30% deposit**) over 48 months, Mazda is also offering low-cost, 6.9% APR Representative finance on Personal Contract Purchase (no minimum deposit) up to 36 months for all models.

“All vehicles in the Mazda model line-up deliver a dynamic and engaging drive, with strongly performing engines, competitive CO2 emissions and an ownership experience which is underpinned by reduced costs and Mazda’s outstanding build quality and reliability,” concludes Allibon.

Japanese car brand, Mazda has teamed up with car recycling service, Cartakeback to offer £500 off a new Mazda when a customer scraps their old car.

Cartakeback is an online service with details of over 300 authorised treatment facilities, where customers can scrap their cars for cash, knowing that they will be recycled in a way which meets the strictest environmental standards. After a thorough de-pollution and recycling process, Cartakeback provides a DVLA Certificate of Destruction, releasing our customers of any liability.#

The offer agreed with Mazda is that customers of the scrappage service can enjoy £500 off any Mazda model.

Peter Allibon, sales director for Mazda UK explained the concept: “This offer is not only exciting for our customers, but supports our sustainable Zoom Zoom strategy. While we are working hard on reducing the environmental impact of our cars with the introduction of Mazda’s ground-breaking Skyactiv Technology, where each new model over the next decade will deliver class-leading fuel consumption and significantly lower CO2 emissions, we feel it is important to help customers take their old cars off the road now.”

“Cartakeback fits in perfectly with our values by providing a professional, responsible recycling service starting with the collection of the car.”

Graham Price, managing director of Cartakeback said: “While our national network of Authorised Treatment Facilities provides a superb service, we are constantly looking for ways to reward Cartakeback’s customers for making the responsible decision to recycle their old car with us. We are thrilled with Mazda’s generous offer, which gives customers much more value than that of their scrap car alone, and the opportunity to choose one of their stylish, innovative cars with this compelling offer.”

If your car has reached the end of its life, you can call Mazda to discuss this offer on 0845 601 3147, or contact Cartakeback directly by visiting www.cartakeback.com or ringing 0845 257 32 33.

Mazda, the first car maker to introduce digital service records across its entire range-says that its method of recording digitally is helping to boost resale values for its cars.

It is already well established that cars with full service histories are worth more and are easier to sell than models without. But a digital record service history makes easier for owners and subsequent owners to keep a thorough and accurate record of servicing.

“DSR replaces the traditional service record book which sits in the glovebox for 364 days of the year, emerging once every 12 months to be stamped when the car has its annual service,” explained David Wilson-Green, Aftersales Director at Mazda UK.

New research from ICM shows that more than one-in-three buyers (34 per cent) would not buy a car without a full service history and that greater value is placed on cars with a full service history from a franchised dealer rather than an independent dealer. In fact, only 32 per cent valued the car the same if serviced by an independent garage, suggesting that 68 per cent valued the car greater if it has a full service history from a franchised dealer. This means that using a franchised dealer for servicing will add value to a car when it comes to selling it. With the average used car selling for £5,500, the findings indicate that a full service record could be worth up to £1,500.

Using a franchised dealer brings other benefits for customers. Genuine parts come with a two-year warranty while fully-trained technicians will not only keep Mazda cars running at peak efficiency but also have access to important vehicle software updates.

“DSR is much more secure than the traditional paper service record,” said Wilson-Green who has overall responsibility for DSR on behalf of Mazda’s 151-strong dealer network.

“Service histories can be falsified; but with an electronic service record it is very difficult to be fraudulent,” highlighted Wilson-Green.

Mazda UK sends out thousands of service reminders to customers every month. In the peak months of March and September, up to 20,700 can be sent out by post or email; reminders are also sent to those who miss a service.

DSR was launched for all new Mazda vehicles in 2006, but any Mazda built since 1998 can be added retrospectively to the database. This means that Mazda has a database of more than 274,000 cars, with one 1999 Mazda Premacy customer, who has already covered more than 181,000 miles, having the DSR fitted to ensure servicing is recorded correctly and securely into the future.

Mazda is to supply a fleet of cars to the Rugby League International federation as the official vehicle sponsor for the 2011 Gillette Rugby League Four Nations tournament. The Four Nations kicks off this Friday (October 28, 2011) in Warrington.

The new Mazda four nations fleet consists of two diesel –powered Mazda5 models and four Mazda6 estate cars, will be used to transport England international players, match officials and VIPs to the tournament’s seven matches and to a series of promotional events including school visits to publicise the exciting sport to the star players of tomorrow.

This year’s top Rugby League event will see teams from England, Wales, Australia and New Zealand battling for glory at six venues across the UK including Warrington, Leigh, Wembley Stadium (hosting a double-header with two matches on 5 November), Hull and Wrexham, with the final held at Elland Road, Leeds on 19 November.

"We are delighted to have secured this invaluable support from Mazda during this major competition," stated Steve McNamara, England Team National Coach. "We chose Mazda for our new Four Nations fleet because both the Mazda5 and Mazda6 combine practicality and comfort with great looks and a truly sporty character that echoes the spirit of our sport. In fact, many of our staff already drive Mazda3s."

Jeremy Thomson, managing director for Mazda UK commented: "The sport of Rugby League requires athleticism, performance and stamina, attributes which resonate with those of the Mazda range – sporty design, responsive handling, driving performance and great durability. The Gillette Four Nations brings four of the world’s best teams together, head to head, at some of the UK’s best sporting venues for a world-class sporting challenge that complements our brand."

Mazda is to launch its sixth generation model range in early 2012, starting with the all-new Mazda CX-5 compact crossover SUV. Complete with car maker’s new breakthrough Skyactiv Technology, each new model over the next decade will deliver much improved fuel consumption and significantly lower CO2 emissions, while retaining fun-to-drive characteristics which the brand prides itself on.

Mazda is to make its global premiere of its Takeri concept car, a next-generation mid-sized-saloon, at the Tokyo Motor Show next month (November 30, 2011).

Also on the Japanese car maker’s stand will be the new CX-5 crossover model, which makes use of the brand’s breakthrough SkyActiv technology.

Mazda’s theme for the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show will be "Environmental Technology, Pushing the Boundaries of the Emotion of Motion.

The Takeri concept car exploits Mazda’s new design language, Kodo – Soul of Motion, to add allure to its mid-size saloon styling. Under the bonnet is Mazda’s much talked-about Skyactiv Technology, including Mazda’s first regenerative braking system. This technology converts kinetic energy to electricity during deceleration, stores it in capacitors and then uses it to power the vehicle’s electrical equipment – reducing load on the engine and saving fuel. Combined with the new SKYACTIV-D diesel engine, Mazda i-stop, new lightweight structure, aerodynamic and chassis technologies, regenerative braking – enables the Mazda Takeri to achieve excellent fuel economy together with vigorous performance and a comfortable high-quality ride.

The new Mazda CX-5 is the first production vehicle to feature Mazda’s new design language Kodo paired with Skyactiv Technology engines, transmission, bodyshell and chassis. It planned to launch in the UK some time during 2012.

Mazda is offering some great Motability offers this autumn, with deals available on selected Mazda3 and Mazda MX-5 models for the remainder of 2011 and the continues availability of the Mazda2 automatic model with no advance payment.

Motability drivers can now choose the compact Mazda3 1.6 TS hatchback, with manual or automatic transmission, for an advanced payment of just £499. The Mazda3 is the Japanese brand’s best-seller worldwide and the automatic features a 4-speed gearbox with fully automatic and manual modes for maximum driving enjoyment. This 105ps model returns 37.2mpg on the combined fuel cycle and has CO2 emissions of 176g/km. Alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, electric front and rear windows and a leather steering wheel with integrated audio controls are standard.

Meanwhile the MX-5- the world’s best-selling roadster-is also now available for an advanced payment of £499 for the 1.8i SE model and £849 for the 1.8i SE Air Con. Both these soft-top convertibles promise truly rewarding all-year round sporty motoring.

Steve Jelliss, Mazda Fleet and Remarketing Director responsible for the Motability programme, commented: “There are more than 700 Mazda3 models on Motability contracts which are due for renewal in the final quarter of 2011 and our autumn deals will provide our customers with another compelling reason to stay with the Mazda brand, whilst our dealers can also offer a much stronger proposition to other Motability drivers, in particular on the Mazda3 1.6 TS Automatic.

“Meanwhile, the Mazda MX-5 remains an iconic car in the minds of most British motorists and has always proved popular when offered on the Motability programme. We have therefore re-introduced the roadster to the autumn programme in response to customer demand,” added Jelliss.

This year the stylish Mazda2 small car has been at the heart of the brand’s Motability programme, with the five-door, automatic model proving especially popular. This TS2 model features a powerful 1.5-litre 102ps engine and a four-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration to 62mph is a brisk 11.9 seconds, while the CO2 rating is a modest 146g/km. Standard equipment includes alloy wheels and air-conditioning.

Mazda is to reveal a new CX-5 compact crossover at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The new model will be the first to benefit from Mazda’s efficient SkyActiv Technology and will feature the new design theme; ‘KODO-Soul of Motion’.

Joining the already established CX-7, the new CX-5 will offer a more compact dimension but will still benefit from being spacious inside. It will be introduced to global markets from 2012.

Using the car maker’s complete range of SkyActiv Technologies, including the latest efficient petrol and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, body and chassis-the CX-5 is designed to deliver precise handling responses and high quality ride while still offering outstanding environmental credentials and advanced safety performance.

The engine line-up for the European specification CX-5 will include Mazda’s Skyactiv-G 2.0 gasoline engine and Skyactiv-D 2.2 diesel engine, which will be available in Standard Power and High Power versions. Each engine has a record-breaking compression ratio of 14:1 for ideal efficiency. Mazda’s engineers focused on achieving exceptional environmental performance for a compact SUV and targeted CO2 emissions of less than 120g/km for the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 engined model.

The CX-5 is also the first production model to showcase Mazda’s new design theme, ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’, which was previewed with the Mazda SHINARI and Mazda MINAGI concept cars. Unique themes of the KODO design theme include a prominent new frontal treatment with a bolder Mazda family face and more dynamic styling that conveys a strong sense of vitality and agility.

Joining the CX-5 on Mazda’s stand at the Frankfurt Show will be the upgraded Mazda3. This hugely popular Mazda now delivers lower CO2 emissions, more sporty and stable driving dynamics, with an updated interior and exterior design, and higher quality levels.

The world premiere of the all-new Mazda CX-5 will be celebrated during Mazda’s official press conference on Tuesday, 13 September at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

Inspired by its MX-5 GT race car competing in the 2011 Britcar Production GTN Championship, Mazda has introduced two new ‘Black Limited Edition models- a MX-5 Sport Black and a Mazda2 Black-to bring a darker, sportier edge to the car maker’s range.

Weighing just 850kg, the MX-5 GT race car has achieved two podiums in its first year of racing and is currently ranked third in class. Taking on the likes of Lotus, BMW and Ferrari, Mazda is challenging the convention.

In honour of the race car’s success, the Mazda MX-5 Sport Black is available from mid-July, and features a unique paint finish and an enhanced specification, offering more for a lower price than the car it’s based on. Externally the car is highlighted by a Brilliant Black powered retractable hard-top, this is in contrast with the choice of bodywork colours – Spirited Green metallic, Crystal White Pearlescent and Velocity Red mica – but compliments the dark ‘gun metal’ 17-inch alloy wheels.

The model also comes with black leather interior with contrasting ‘sand’ colour stitching, Piano Black steering wheel and deco panel, and unique ‘Black Limited Edition’ exterior badging, uniquely numbered interior plaque and Limited Edition floor mats.

The MX-5 Sport Black incorporates the generous equipment specification of the Sport Tech model, including climate control air-conditioning, a premium Bose® audio system, an integrated hands-free Bluetooth® system, cruise control and front fog lights. Owners will also benefit from the world’s fastest folding powered retractable roof, which goes up or down in 12 seconds.

Only 500 examples of the Mazda MX-5 Sport Black will be produced, each costing £22,995 (OTR), just £360 more than the 160ps, 2.0-litre, six-speed transmission Sport Tech model on which it is based.

Five-door Mazda2 with attitude

Meanwhile, following the MX-5 Sport Black theme, the new Limited Edition Mazda2 Black five-door is also available in Spirited Green metallic, Crystal White Pearlescent and True Red. Based on the 84ps, 1.3-litre Tamura model, the Mazda2 Black adds a black vinyl roof, matt black 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, privacy glass and a rear bumper sports trim.

Inside, there is the Sports interior with climate control air-conditioning, a Parrot Bluetooth® hands-free system, electric rear windows, plus unique ‘Black Edition’ exterior badging, uniquely numbered interior plaque and Limited Edition floor mats.

Mazda car leasing deals

Mazda new and nearly new car deals

Mazda road test reports

Inspired again by Mazda’s convention-defying race car, just 618 examples of the Mazda2 Black will be produced, with prices starting at £12,395 (OTR) for the True Red version and £12,815 for the other metallic and pearlescent colours.

The next Britcar race takes place at the Snetterton race circuit from 13-14 August 2011.
