Goodbye to the Honda FR-V

Well its goodbye to the Honda FR-V this summer, with the last car due to roll off the production line at the Suzuka plant in Japan this August.

Honda’s popular compact-MPV vehicle with its stylish looks and quality interior has been a family favourite since it was first launched in 2004 (and rightly earns four and a half stars on RoadTestReports.co.uk). Its unusual 3+3 seating enables a child to sit up front with mum and dad and means there’s enough space for children, parents and grandparents to travel together.

There are 32 different seating combinations, three ISOFIX points, terrific cabin and load space whether the seats are up or down, and plenty of clever storage units that mean for family days out, school runs, or trips with lots of luggage, the FR-V can be changed to suit.

The FR-V has been very successful in its niche market, but the MPV sector is a very mature one and downsizing has become the dominant trend more recently. With cars like Jazz and Insight, we can serve this emerging market very well,” said Tom Gardner, Head of Marketing – Cars for Honda (UK).

The FR-V has been a nice alternative to the usual line-up of standard people carriers, with its alternative layout, and premium level quality for a reasonable price. As a result, in the UK, Honda has sold 13,531 FR-Vs since the family car first went on sale in 2004.

The FR-V continues to be on sale from £16,700 0n-the-road for the 1.8-litre i-VTEC SE model, while the 2.2-litre i-CTDi SE starts from £18,000 on-the-road.
