Kia has released a photo of their fun-looking Soul concept called the Soul’ster, an open-air version of their soon-to-be-released Soul car, which is unveiled at the 2009 Detroit motor show.
The Korean manufacturer has obviously tried to put the fun into this concept with a more aggressive front end, screw borders, similar to rivet design on fighter jets, and a two-piece top enables passengers to expose the front and back seats independently.
Inside the cabin the designers have opted for non-floor mounted cantilevered seats which provides extra leg room and the impression that the seats are floating when viewed from the side. Unlike the production Soul, this has a four seat configuration, with the ability to fold flat the passenger seat and rear seats.
“Soul’ster delivers something new, intriguing and relevant to today’s buyers – a fun, affordable convertible for active people who like to share good times with friends,” said Tom Kearns, Kia Motors America chief designer. “Defying categorization and providing utility and practicality, the Soul’ster exhibits distinctive design cues and satisfies multiple consumer needs.”
Finally the LED headlamps, fog and tail lamps, side vents and side-mirror turn signals lamps incorporate a blue shade when in use.
No word from Kia whether this version of the Soul will be released to the public, but it further highlights their vision of offering fun products to the younger driving market.
