Performance Performance - 3 stars

The Toyota Avensis Tourer offers decent performance, all the engines are willing and capable. The 2.2-litre diesel is the pick of the bunch. You need to drive the Tourer with respect as it can become rather noisy when pushed too hard.

Ride & Handling Ride & Handling - 3 stars

Body control is OK and this does not suffer as the load increases. The steering is not ultra-responsive but the Avensis Tourer does grip well.

Build Quality & Reliability Build Quality & Reliability - 5 stars

This is where the Avensis excels, both build quality and reliability are first-class. The interior exudes quality and the reliability of the engines is superb.

Safety & Security Safety & Security - 4 stars

The Avensis was awarded the maximum Euro NCAP five star rating for adult occupation. One star was given for pedestrian protection. The Avensis keeps its passengers safe. Twin front and side airbags, curtain airbags and driver’s knee airbag come as standard. Security is high with etched windows, deadlocks and an alarm fitted as standard.

Space & Practicality Space & Practicality - 4 stars

Immense load space can be achieved by splitting and folding the rear seats. A very spacious and practical estate car.

Ownership & Value Ownership & Value - 3 stars

Running costs will be low with the Toyota Avensis Tourer thanks to excellent fuel economy and respectable CO2 emissions. Insurance groups will be between 7 and 12. Residual values are again, respectable, expect the Avensis to be worth around 35-40% of its new car price after 3 years and you will not be far out.
