SEAT Exeo 2.0 Tdi SE road test report

2.0 Tdi SE

The NEW Seat Exeo is an all round winner in it’s category, I have driven the Audi A4 on which it is based and actually drive a 2.0 Tdi Passat and without doubt the Exeo is the better car. It has strong performance, fantastic handling and just about every conceivable toy you could wish for. It is also a head turner as it’s a great car to look at.

ADAM SAYS

Performance Performance - 5 stars

Strong performance with the powerful 2.0 Tdi engine coupled to a six speed gearbox which is both slick and evenly spaced. In my opinion the Exeo has all the performance you would every need.

Ride & Handling Ride & Handling - 5 stars

The ride is the best in class, there is a huge amount of grip and the car feels poised and under control at all times. The fact the ride is also extremely comfortable is an added bonus. The car is refined even on the worst types of bumpy roads.

Build Quality & Reliability Build Quality & Reliability - 5 stars

The car has the build quality of an Audi and I was amazed that the car had not one rattle or squeak, unlike my Passat! The Exeo is well put together and all the switch gears feel solid. The doors have a satisfying “clunk” when closed.

Safety & Security Safety & Security - 5 stars

Loads of airbags, ABS, Traction control etc makes this car feel very safe.

Space & Practicality Space & Practicality - 3 stars

This is the only area that the Exeo is slightly let down with tall front seat passengers there is limited rear leg room. The Exeo has a voluminous boot but there was no facility for putting long items through the back seat like ski’s etc. which was disappointing.

Ownership & Value Ownership & Value - 5 stars

It would be a true delight to own this car and I will seriously consider replacing my Passat with the Exeo when it’s time. The Exeo represents true value for money with pricing starting at around £17,000 and a huge spec; in a word fantastic!

ANDY SAYS

Performance Performance - 4 stars

The all new Seat Exeo has the 140 Bhp 2.0 Litre diesel engine which has performed so well in the Audi and VW products. It really is a Joy to drive , always provoking the driver in to using the right foot a little more to release some of the torque and power waiting to be used. A 6-Speed gearbox completes a very sporty package and our car was only in SE spec!

Ride & Handling Ride & Handling - 4 stars

Quite a form ride is appropriate in the Seat Exeo, everything else in the car points to it being a ‘Sport saloon’ rather than a run of the mill rep car or family carrier . One thing definitely worth mentioning is the seats. The driver’s seat is an absolute joy to be in, very comfortable indeed and very supportive and this is the same in the case of the front and rear passenger seats also. The handling of the car is very direct and has a real ‘point and go’ feel to it. This car handles very much like an Audi, which is neither a surprise , given the Exeos similarity to the Audi A4 , or a negative, given the excellent handling in the Audi A4.

Build Quality & Reliability Build Quality & Reliability - 4 stars

Solid build quality , with good quality interior fittings. It is too soon to evaluate the reliability of the Exeo , although you would imagine that with the vehicle’s pedigree, any ownership experience should be trouble free.

Safety & Security Safety & Security - 4 stars

The Exeo feels very sturdy on the road. Remote central locking and alarm make the vehicle accomplished security wise. Airbags are evident all around , for both the driver and passengers.

Space & Practicality Space & Practicality - 3 stars

The Exeo actually feels very compact internally. The rear passengers do not have a huge amount of legroom although the boot is generous. Driver position is top notch though and it is this compact feeling which helps make the driver experience as good as it is.

Ownership & Value Ownership & Value - 4 stars

What you are getting with the Exeo is Audi and Volkswagen quality engines and styling with a Seat price tag. This equates to excellent value and the biggest battle faced by Seat here is to make the Exeo stand out as a vehicle in it’s own right. Good contract hire rentals should be evident soon as the residual values of the vehicle are determined. The vast majority of Exeos purchased will be diesel and this will only help in the value stakes.
