Kia Pro_Ceed 2.0-litre CRDi Sport Road Test Report

2.0-litre CRDi Sport

Here I am again in another KIA, at this rate I’ll be a convert, in fact I think I am. The rear haunches and the angle of the front lights makes this humble KIA look like the aggressively styled Volvo C40.

ANDY SAYS

Performance Performance - 4 stars

This model is the Jewel in the pro_cee’d crown, with a 2.0 Litre diesel engine pumping out 138 BHP and a specification level unmatched throughout the range. Usually in a strong turbo diesel unit you would expect a certain amount of turbo lag at low revs, Kia however seem to have made the Sport a smoother ride than most, with power delivered more or less evenly throughout the gears. The Car is certainly swift and does deliver on substance to match the aggressive styling.

Ride & Handling Ride & Handling - 3 stars

The pro_cee’d Sport is not a soft ride and does not have comfort as the main priority! Larger alloys and low profile tyres, both great to look at , mean a firmer ride than the rest of the range and although the sports seats are very supportive this can sometimes mean longer journeys are more tiring than otherwise necessary.

Build Quality & Reliability Build Quality & Reliability - 5 stars

Top notch! The pro_cee’d sport feels solid, chunky and reassuringly well put together. This should worry its European rivals who have traditionally traded on the fact that their cars are made using better materials and more appealing aesthetics. The C’eed also comes with it’s now legendary 7 year warranty which displays a huge amount of faith in the vehicle by the manufacturer.

Safety & Security Safety & Security - 4 stars

The pro_cee'd feel like a very ‘substantial’ vehicle even though it is no larger than the Astra or Focus. Airbags all round and remote central locking and alarm complete the package.

Space & Practicality Space & Practicality - 3 stars

There are cavernous amounts of legroom in the pro_cee’d for the front passenger and driver. Those in the rear are slightly less fortunate in this respect, although you would have thought that a buyer wit this in mind would be looking at the C’eed hatch which has five doors, rather than the pro_cee'd.

Ownership & Value Ownership & Value - 4 stars

If you are buying a car to keep it for a good few years then the pro_cee'd would be a sensible choice, its reliability has always been a strong point and matched with the 7 year warranty this makes a strong case as an ownership proposition. Residual values are a little unknown as the cars are so new, although if we are following trends here then you would expect the diesel variants to out perform their petrol siblings in this area. Offers out at the moment include buying a diesel for the same price as the equivalent petrol, as Kia themselves spot that particular trend.

NINA SAYS

Performance Performance - 4 stars

The Pro-Cee’d delivers ample power at low revs and with good acceleration the gutsy engine reaches illegal speeds easily (I would anticipate!)

Ride & Handling Ride & Handling - 3 stars

This sporty but comfortable ride has positive feel steering and taught handling with no wallow around bends. Braking has a progressive feel with the ability to bring the car to a swift halt. The seats are very supportive with adequate side bolsters, giving a firm hold on twisty roads.

Build Quality & Reliability Build Quality & Reliability - 4 stars

The car feels solidly built compared with KIA’s of old. All come with a 7 year warranty, which if you’re not superficial enough to be swayed by badge is a big plus. With soft leather, chrome pedals and kick plates the Pro-Cee’d oozes prestige, and the kit list seems untouchable compared to the standard models of the main rivals.

Safety & Security Safety & Security - 3 stars

With airbags a plenty you can’t help but feel re-assured by the KIA. Alarm & immobiliser come as standard and with interior reflectors nearly as big as the doors themselves, you’ll not be caught out easily!

Space & Practicality Space & Practicality - 4 stars

I wouldn’t blame anyone for confusing this as a family aimed car with the amount of space in the boot and the 3 standard belts in the back. Bags of head room also makes this ‘sport hatch’ a winner with those that fail to ‘shot-gun’ first.

Ownership & Value Ownership & Value - 4 stars

Compared to the likes of Vauxhall Astra, you get a lot more gear as standard, and you get that individuality that comes with the Pro- Cee’d. KIA has really upped their game with this one.
