Performance Performance - 5 stars

The Jaguar XF is available with the choice of two petrol engines and one diesel engine. First off, the petrol engines, the 3.0-litre V6 has a maximum speed of 148mph and can achieve 0-60 in 7.9 seconds. The 4.2-litre V8 has a maximum speed of 155mph and can achieve 0-60 in 6.2 seconds (the V8 SC SV8 can achieve 0-60 in 5.1 seconds). The only diesel engine is the 2.7-litre which has a maximum speed of 143mph and can achieve 0-60 in 7.7 seconds.

Ride & Handling Ride & Handling - 5 stars

The XF provides a wonderfully smooth drive, exuding balance and control.

Build Quality & Reliability Build Quality & Reliability - 5 stars

The XF more than holds its own against rivals such as the BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes E-Class. The stitched leather dash plus the aluminium and wood furnishings make the XF look and feel luxurious. Jaguar’s reliability record is very, very good.

Safety & Security Safety & Security - 5 stars

EBA (emergency brake assist), EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution), ABS (anti-lock braking) plus traction and stability control are standard. The XF will do its utmost to prevent a collision and in the event of a crash, does everything it can to protect you.

Space & Practicality Space & Practicality - 4 stars

If you are above average height the roofline may leave you short on headroom. The XF should still accommodate four adults easily enough. Legroom is good and folding down the rear seats can extend the 500-litre boot.

Ownership & Value Ownership & Value - 3 stars

The XF holds its value reasonably well; the diesels will be worth between 48 and 50% of their original price after three years. The petrols are not quite as strong, they are likely to retain between 40 and 46% of their original price. The insurance groups are high, starting at 16 and going up to the maximum 20 for the 4.2-litre V8 SC SV8. The XF will be in 30 –35% band for company car tax. This all goes together to make running costs and tax bills high and may possibly deter some drivers.
