The bigger brother to the Bentley Continental GT and GTC, the Continental Flying Spur is exactly what you would expect; fabulous performance, enough to put the frighteners up any supercar (two and a half tonnes of car capable of 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds!) and with all the usual Bentley refinement you would demand and expect.

The car shares the same awesome engine that powers the GT and GTC, a 6-litre W12 twin-turbo engine, which provides all the power you will ever need. The engine provides phenomenal overtaking ability at all speeds and yet the driver always feels in complete control. The extra weight is barely noticeable and with a top speed of 194mph it provides some serious performance. The six speed automatic transmission is also a work of art responding positively and quickly to the whim of the driver.

For such a large car (virtually 5.3metres in length) it belies its size with crisp handling and with the all-wheel drive ensuring it gets all the power onto the road quickly and cleanly, it provides an excellent, smooth ride. The only minor problem with the car is its sheer size making it slightly troublesome to navigate in tight spaces but this is a minor gripe and one which affects any car of this size.

Bentley hasn’t cut any corners in providing a sumptuous all leather and carpeted interior, in a luxurious hand-crafted cabin; in other words total refinement and with four zone climate control all passengers travel in the ultimate comfort. The build quality is exceptional and reliability on this model is as per the usual very high Bentley standard.

While we don’t recommend you go looking to test out the safety measures built into the Flying Spur, rest assured Bentley have provided four-wheel drive traction with sophisticated electronic safety systems to keep the vehicle on the road. A multitude of airbags (front, side, and curtain) will help protect the occupants should the worst happen and the car is involved in a crash. The car also comes with an alarm (immobilisation, interior and exterior sensing, and glass break and inclination sensors included) to stop would-be thieves, GPS tracking is an optional extra and should be seriously considered.

The first thing you notice is the huge amount of room in this car, front and back – four adults will travel in absolute luxury and space. With a wide range of electric adjustment available to help the driver achieve the perfect driving position, it is difficult to suggest another car which offers more comfort than the Flying Spur; its interior space is its main advantage over the smaller GT and GTC. The boot offers 475 litres of capacity and is sensibly shaped.

The car has few true rivals being neatly positioned above the luxury models of Mercedes, BMW, and Audi but below the ultra expensive Maybach’s and Rolls Royce’s of this world. The Bentley Continental Flying Spur offers unrivalled performance and comfort in a large four door saloon, obviously this car does not come cheap but you get A LOT of car for your money.
