Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatch Full Road Test Report

Performs efficiently and handles brilliantly. A sporty looking exterior, quality is by far the first word that comes to mind. A comfortable ride with plenty of head room in the front and back. A worthy successor to previous Astra models.... read more

Vauxhall Signum 2004

This car was what i thought was going to be my best yet and at just over three years old I’m beginning to think i may have bought and old Vauxhall Viva or Chevette. At 28000 miles it€™s had a new timing chain a new injector module new rear arms and new rear shocks. It is now booked in to have the rear wheel bearings done and the door seals on the front two doors. I’m glad in a way I€™m not paying for the work to be done but its costing me money every time it goes in for work to be done to hire cars for the duration of the work. Warranty people don€™t pay for hire cars! anyway other than all the work and all the money i pay out for hire cars it is a wonderful car to drive, a bit of a fuel drinker around town but on the motorways its a good 40 to 50 mpg at a steady 80 mph, shushhhhhhhh did i mention speeding then. Lol. Handles the road very good in all conditions and very roomy inside for all the family. One thing it does miss as a new car and tha€™ts the heated front screen.

Vauxhall Corsa 2000

Handles very well round corners and is very nippy; get a lot of problems with the windscreen wipers and washers - front and back. All in all a pleasure to drive.

Vauxhall Corsa Design 2007

Just recently received my new Corsa 1.2i design and can’t really fault it. Yes i would agree with many reviews that the engine is slightly out of puff on hills. This means it needs to be revved in order to get up to speed, subsequently fuel is less efficient. But having had 3 Polo’s previously this makes for a refreshing change. The steering is excellent, along with the grip. And the cabin is as roomy as the previous Polo’s, although the three door rear space is minimal, but then if i needed the room i would have a brought a 5 door. The toys as standard on this model are fantastic, automatic rain sensing wipers, light sensing auto lights, and auto rear view mirror, not forgetting Aircon, electric windows and mirrors, all make for a touch of luxury on a wee car.

Vauxhall Meriva Life easytronic 2007

Like the car, spacious and comfortable. Quirky gearbox with heavy fuel consumption.

Vauxhall Antara S 2007

I have had an Antara for a year now and it has performed perfectly everyone who travels in it is impressed by its ride qualities and interior space, off road it is more that capable as an SUV and despite getting it very muddy it has never got stuck, I would recommend anyone looking for this type of vehicle to consider one.

Vauxhall Corsa 1992

I’m in love with my little, bright green Corsa. It wasn’t a car I’d ever really fancied before but my husband bought this one then decided it was too ’girly’ for him, so I ended up with it. It’s a dream to drive, easy to handle if a little heavy on the steering since it doesn’t have PAS. The pedals are close together but that was easy to get used to. The boot is surprisingly roomy and easily takes a weekly shopping load. Overall a nifty little car.

Vauxhall Astra Estate SRi 2007

The 150 CDTi Estate is Spartan in the cabin (it does not even have an engine temperature gauge) and somewhat noisy until warmed up. The ride on those 18 inch low profile tyres result in a hard ride with a lot of road noise. However on the plus side the performance is astonishing. If the ’ sport ’ button is pushed the response to the accelerator is so quick it is a bit difficult to drive smoothly which is not helped by the very powerful brake assistance. Very much a driver’s car which puts a smile on ones face. My wife hates it for its lack of comfort and refinement.

Vauxhall Meriva 1.7cdti 2006

My Meriva is my Tardis on wheels! I needed a vehicle which for 99% of the year transports just me and my business goods around the country but for 1% accommodates trips out with family and friends spreading into the back seat. A Vectra served me well but the overall length and boot projection made parking and manoeuvring in strange locations a bind. I cannot believe the Meriva is based on a Corsa chassis. The internal space is huge -legroom front and back is phenomenal and is not provided at the expense of the standard boot space (as with some mpvs). Flexspace drops the rear seats in a flash to a massive loading area, with no lip at the tailgate to negotiate and several handy anchorage points to tie everything down (not family and friends!). The car handles like a mini hatchback and the common rail engine provides excellent poke at the lower end of the gearbox. It will cruise for ever and on long, fully loaded journeys returns 45mpg with ease -which is pretty good for the planet and the purse. The solar reflect glass -available on the top models -is an added luxury in hot weather and an essential security feature when loaded up. I challenge any manufacturer to offer me a better vehicle for my needs (however a private helicopter may do nicely!) PS to Peter Mahoney (post 9.11.2007)..... 23 years ago we had a baby + a toddler + all associated necessities (pushchair/ travel cot/high chair/nappies/food/clothes) all neatly stashed in a two door Fiesta for regular 5 hour journeys. Children of today have it too easy!!
