My 2007 won't start. It was fine yesterday. I have tried the lock and unlock. Still has not started. Trid jumping for the heck of it but radio was working so I know it wasn't the battery. When door is opened the security red light flashes, I put key in ignition and the light goes out but won't start. There is no clicking noise, nothing. It's like it's dead but dash lights, radio and dinging sound when you open door comes on. Not sure on the Variant section you asked to indicate.

Answer this question

Noel Quinsey, Australia

Ford Kuga

There are two questions, maybe related 1. After driving for a short period a soft 'woomp woomp woomp' sound at the rate of about one 'woomp' per second comes from the engine and continues when you stop and idle. Switch off the engine and the noise stops. 2. When you stop the car there is a metallic 'ping ping ping' noise from the direction of the exhaust similar to the sound of a metal roof cooling. There is also a smell of something very hot. Are you able to help on these questions please? Thank you (Mr) Noel Quinsey 15 July 2016

Hi Harry, Unfortunately I haven't got the answer but I've got exactly the same problem. Just come back from garage and to be honest they were none the wiser either! We were thinking of changing car anyway so I think we will definitely be changing it now. Problem only started with us last night and we literally going out every few hours to start engine to make sure battery didn't go flat. How long you had the problem? Does it drain battery flat if you leave it overnight? Cheers Dylan Dylan from Carmarthenshire

Rebecca Wilson, England

Ford Ka 2009

Hi, I have a problem with my Ford Ka. Whenever there’s heavy rain or I wash the car the passenger footwell becomes sodden. I have had it looked at twice and was told on the first occasion that the drain hole was blocked. My Ka still leaked so I went back to the same mechanic who did a water test etc. he then thought it was the door seal and did the necessary work. A week later, after a night of heavy rain, the footwell was sodden again. The mechanic and myself are at a loss with this. The car is parked at night on my drive which is on a slope, could this be affecting the leak? Does anyone have any ideas? This is seriously driving me nuts and any help will be greatly appreciated!

Answers

Park it on a slope the other way (i.e. reverse on if you normally drive it on forwards) and see if it still happens. Dangerous Dave from Nottinghamshire

Open the bonnet and remove the plastic trim, which goes between the base of the screen and the rear of the bonnet. Get some silicone sealant and seal where there is a visual leak Dangerous Dave from Nottinghamshire

Hi Rebecca, just had this exact same problem on my 09 ka! By trade I’m an auto electrician on HGV’s, so water leaks really aren’t my area. Stripped the interior to find what I knew to be an entry point. As far as finding how it was getting in, no luck! I managed to get a post warranty claim from Ford UK. It turns out this is a well known issue on all early new shape KA’s. The water gets in through a bad patch in the seam sealant, on the rear crash membrane. The rear bumper needs to be removed, along with the interior, which isn’t actually difficult to do at all. The bumper, I’d leave to someone else! The seam sealant will need to be removed and new, re-applied! All in all I paid £280 and have received a free service and MoT as a part of goodwill. Definitely worth investigating, before paying their original request of £890! Hope this helps you out! Any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact me! Jack Hadfield from England

Under the bonnet, remove the two rubber 'plugs' on the apron below the wipers. The channel fills up with debris and the drain holes which lead to the wheel arches block up. Remove the debris, poke a wire down the drain holes to clear them, and do not replace the two 'plugs' so that rain water can drain out easily. That solved my problem anyway. dave from East Sussex

Julie Edwards, England

Ford Focus 2005

The battery on my Ford Focus was low. I tried to start it and it attempted to turn the engine over but on the third attempt it was completely flat, so I tried to jump start it but when I turned the ignition key in my car the engine wouldn`t do anything, no noise at all. The immobiliser light comes on and then continuously flashes about 70 times. The remote key fob is operating the doors but it won`t start the car. I called the AA out and they said that they couldn’t get my car to ’talk’ to their machine so suggested taking it to Ford. As I don`t want to be landed with the usual huge bill I decided against this. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be and can I fix it myself? Thanks.

Ford S-Max 2010

I lose the sound from my speakers in my Ford S-MAX except centre but at a low level, with a clicking type of sound and the words "drive fault " comes up on the Sony unit. Does anybody know what causes this to happen? Also under hard acceleration in 3/4 gears the engine seems to hesitate a little then pick up. It will keep doing it until you stop accelerating, it feels like a rocking type of motion. I hope things don’t come in 3’s. Any help will be great. (Titanium)

Hi matey, did you sort out CD player fault and was it a easy fix? Ben Moss from England

I have exactly the same problem displayed as "CD drive fault" with my S-Max from 2010. I also experience that to clear the fault, the car must be turned off and locked for several minutes and that a short power off/on cycle is not enough! I have noticed that the fault can be triggered by placing a mobile phone on the upper left speaker on the dashboard, so I suspect some kind of radio interference problem in the S-Max. It also appears more often on the high-way than in the city (maybe the mobile phone uses more power when far away from base stations?) Of course the error never appears at the Ford service center so they have so far not been able to solve this problem. Linus from Sweden

We have exactly the same issue. Has anyone got to the bottom of this yet? Hannah Swain from London

Ford now seem to have a software update, which solves this problem with S-Max and the sony audio. I visited Ford service a few weeks ago, they updated the sound system, and since then no CD drive fault! Linus Thrybom from Sweden

It’s pretty annoying we have the same problem with a 2010 Titanium x. Happens every other day and just comes out of the blue! Real shame as a great stereo. I’m going to get in touch with Ford as I can’t imagine our dealership will be much help; very friendly, but only interested in problems they see. Any suggestions would be appreciated :). If the car is switched off for more than 10 mins it usually corrects! Lee Bunn from England

same problem with my galaxy titanium stereo... i find holding the power button down until the display goes black, then switching it back on seems to reset it. Maybe be ok again for couple of hours, or couple of minutes then do it again. This is not a great solution but best i've come up with. Very annoying when your singing along.... then click click click. Ford main dealer wanted at least £90 depending on problem to fix it martin from Greater London

I had EXACTLY the same problem as described. I took it to the local main dealer where they advised that the issue was related to communication between the modules/components in the car. They upgraded the firmware of the modules and the problem was resolved. Phil from Staffordshire

Exactly the same problem as detailed. But my local dealership say there is no update and I need a new unit. Can anyone please tell me the dealership in Staffordshire or London who has resolved this so that I can contact them. Even contacted Ford who just supported the dealer's line and said I could go to another dealership. Infuriating. Dec from Surrey

Hi, I have this same problem. Did the Ford dealer charge to fix this update? If so, are you able to give an indication of the cost. Thanks Richard from North Yorkshire

At last some fellow Ford drivers with the same problem. I am selling my S-Max later this year and cannot sell it with this fault. My local Ford dealership said a new unit is £800(!) plus fitting costs. They suggested going onto Ebay and buying a second hand unit, which probably came from breaker`s yard right off Ford's with exact same stereo (cost circa £100 plus fitting costs). This I am wary of as it could be a whole load of expenditure and no fix. Phil from Staffordshire said they upgraded the firmware of modules and problem solved. Does this really fix it 100%? Simon Craig from Surrey

Hi Simon. I can confirm that I took my S-Max to the dealer and asked them to do an audio update. This fixed the problem. I left it with them for a few hours and they charged me £50 for the update. It was fixed about 4 months ago and I haven't seen the error since. I later found out that you can do the update yourself. Details on the link below. It may be risky though if it doesn't work so might be worth paying the dealer to do it. http://digiex.net/guides-reviews/guides-tutorials/14009-ford-audio-bluetooth-usb-firmware-update-november-2012-release-how-update.html Richard from North Yorkshire

Crawley Down Group updated the software and recalibrated for £28 plus they valeted the car - came back sparkling. This was after the unhelpful Lifestyle Ford at Manor Royal told me I needed a whole new unit and refused to take note of the online information I had on how to resolve it. Ford were pretty much the same treating social media as some kind of heresy to be ignored, rather than a way of sharing problems and finding answers. They suggested a second opinion as if I had some major medical condition. Anyway, won't be using Lifestyle ever again and would highly recommend Crawley Down Group for excellent service and not treating me like I was an idiot. Dec from Surrey

Richard from North Yorksire and Dec from Surrey, thank you so much for feed back. My local Ford garage were leaning towards new unit at £800!! Crawley Down Group I have used for other vehicles (vans) for work and have found them good in past. They are only a few miles from my business. Didn't know they did Fords. Thanks gents.. Anyone with this fault dig your heels in. I had to, even Ford customer care were unhelpful. The online answers were treated as some kind of heresy. It is a simple software update/ recalibration. It cost me £28 at Ford in Crawley Down not £800 for a new unit as the idiots at Lifestyle Ford in Crawley wanted to charge me. Sadly Crawley Down no longer has a Ford badge, but I think they can still service etc. Over a year later my stereo is still working fine. Dec from Surrey

I've had the car for about 5 months now and noticed that when I try to close the rear passenger windows they go up, don't fully close then open again. I Pull the switch up again to close the window and it does the same as the first try but on the third attempt they close? I'm sure my last small did it as well. How do I get the rear windows to close on the first attempt?

Answers

I had this before on a 2011 S Max, there was an issue with switch / sensor inside the door and had to be replaced. But you can also try resetting the windows - fully close the window by holding the button, when the window is fully closed release the button for a second and then hold in the close position for five seconds this should reset the window and might cure your problem.do the same for the down position Dave from Greater London

hi there pls could u tell me the problem with my ford focus the engine warning light keeps coming up thanks

Answers

Don’t get “ripped off”….In June 2015 the engine warning light of my Ford Focus 1.6 illuminated. As there were no apparent “serious “ problems I extinguished this Several times over the next month by the battery disconnection method. Also during this period it was necessary to top up the Cooling Liquid around every 500 miles or so. There were no obvious signs for this. I then took the Car to the “Expert Mechanics” a Main Ford Dealer/Agent (P***YS) who charged for a Test/Analysis using “Hi Tech” Test Equipments. I received a written Invoice/Report on their Letterhead with confirmation of the verbal explanation that my car was “beyond economical repair” – it was “a write off”. I immediately took the Car to a small local Garage and discussed the situation. They connected a Laptop to the test socket for free and gave a quick look over and listened. The outcome was that one cylinder was sometimes not firing and also that there could possibly be a small gasket leak. I carried out their suggestion to purchase/use a small bottle of RADWELD and fit a new set of Spark Plugs. The car has since done over 13000 miles with no problems at all or with either Engine Warning Light or Cooling Water. BillR Bucks… Bill Ridden from Buckinghamshire

My orange warning light has been on constantly for about 5 days. I topped up my engine oil as I thought it was that, but the light continues to be on. I have checked the oil cap and water coolant cap is on properly.

Answers

Diane.. if engine oil was low there would be a RED light on. An orange light is generally one that advises or warns you that something is not quite right and to have it checked out. It will almost certainly be an orange light with a symbol.. describe what the symbol looks like then check it out in the handbook.. if you have no handbook do a google search for a likeness R Evans from Caerphilly

Ford Ka 2006

My heaters in my Ford Ka have been blowing out hot air for months now and, having taken it to 2 garages who told me I was imagining it, I thought nothing of it. Then I googled the problem and found out it`s a common fault with the Ford Ka and that the heating will be on full lock on hot and will apparently only cost £36 to fix which is fine. However this overheating has caused another problem in the car - all the electrics (apart from windows and lights) have gone, so no back window heater etc and the A/C says it`s on all of the time, (obviously it`s using lots of petrol and water), but the hot air is still blowing out. Any idea how to get this fixed or roughly how much it will be? I don`t want to get the mickey taken out of me again, since I knew there was a problem ages ago and this other problem wouldn`t have happened if they believed me then! Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem happen to my KA ’06. I am now having to pay £65 to get my dash board lights fixed even though my mechanic told me they fixed my heating problem, which cost me £65 then as well. Now I know there is a link and the same garage is fixing my electronics; I think I’m going to point it out when I go down there next. Sorry I couldn’t help you with your problem, I just thought to let you know you’re not the only one. Beth from Caerphilly

I had the same issue, there is a mechanism behind the dash that is accessible from out side under the window. This is a common fault on certain models and year. Since I had it changed ive had no issue. Regarding lights etc, the dashboard light is easy to mend, but you have to take the stereo ot first, then unscrew two crews holding part of the dash facia on. Then where the perspec screen is (speedo etc) two screws hold the dash in place there. I had this issue, cleaned and change the bulb and no issues. Jason from West Yorkshire

Hi, I have a similar problem, whereas the heater works fine for a while, blowing hot and cold when you turn the dial, but every now and then, it goes straight to hot even when on cold, and does not change. but the next day, the problem has gone. now the heater valve was changed last week, and the coolant was also changed last week. so am i missing something here, or is it the dial itself that could be the problem Michael from Middlesex

Ford Kuga 2009

My Ford Kuga broke down with message given power steering malfunction. I took it into Ford and nothing was found. I got a new battery, had it home for 48 hours and it broke down again with the same message. I went back to Ford who put it on diagnostics and found a loose wire, tightened it up and I brought it home, but 17 hours later the car broke down with the same message. It`s still in the garage and they think it`s the cluster but are only seventy per cent sure. Any ideas?

Answers

I had this same problem on Monday 18th July!!! Power steering malfunction message appeared when we were about a mile from our holiday destination! The Kuga was only 2 weeks old and done less than 500 miles!! To say I was unhappy was an understatement!! Ford assist arranged for the AA to come out but they couldn't fix it at roadside as nothing was coming up on their computer. It was recovered to the local Ford garage and they replaced the power steering module unit.......we collected the car on the Friday and so far (touch wood) it appears to be working fine. I have read lots of posts on historically where people have had this same issues but its been on older models. Hope you manage to sort yours out soon!!! Rachel from Essex

How do you reset the mileage counter on my Ford Fiesta? When I press any of the 2 black buttons, one changes the clock and the other only shows the 2 mileage readings. How do you reset the mileage back to zero to judge how far you`ve travelled on your journey? It also helps to know how much petrol you have in reserve if your low fuel light comes on. (finesse)

Answers

With my 2003 Fiesta you just press and hold the button that changes the readout from total mileage to trip mileage. You do have to hold it for quite a few seconds John Piper from Sussex

Everytime I brake going over a pothole or a manhole my Ford Ka’s brakes vibrate and the brake pedal goes soft and they stop working for a short while. It`s happened a few times now but today I nearly went into the back of a van if I hadn`t pulled the handbrake and down shift. What could the problem be?

Answers

What you are describing sounds like ABS function where you will feel vibration through the pedal in response to a skid prevention scenario and a different brake response. If so this is normal function, but as it’s brakes I would advise a checkover just incase. Use a garage you know or have had recommended as brakes are a scammers target area. - Martin (Master technician 20+ years) Anonymous from

Hi there, the problem that Michael White explained is exactly what I have. If i go over a deep pothole or similar in the road, the brake pedal seems to shudder, then go flat to the floor. after you pump it a bit it comes good. have nearly had two rear enders as aresult. it is intermittent. The mechanic cannot find anything, and someone above said it seemed normal! Well can anyone help me please. Is this a known fault with Ka? I have already told my partner, If I die in a crash he needs to sue the garage! Any advice greatly appreciated. Donna Oakland from Yorkshire

car used reasonably regular ( 3 -4 times weekly) with no problem for 4 years.. last week after being left for 3 days (in garage where it is normally kept) door would not open except manually and car would not start.Even the immobiliser light was not flashing. Our usual mechanic checked it over and found the battery was flat . Fitted new battery. Used cars for several trips over 3 days, then it was in the garage for 3 days unused, Same problem ,couldn't open the door and would not start, no immobiliser light. Battery flat again. Mechanic came round started car using jump leads . He has checked over the car and cannot find any problem with Alternator... is charging battery. Something is obviously draining the battery down... any clues please..?

With the weather being so hot in the past few days i've been using the air conditioning. when finished work i found a lot of water under the car not sure if its the air conditioning or not. I would be great full if you could let me know if it is and how much water can you get from it as it was a good puddle of water with thanks.

Answers

Michael, you will get a pool of water under the car when using aircon.. it is condensate that the aircon system filters out and drops it under the car... can be a fair bit too sometimes depending on weather condition outside your air-conned car.., how long you were driving the car, how efficient the aircon is... My Ford Galaxy (Ghia) 1.9 TD has an electronic problem. The hazard lights flash for no apparent reason while out driving and it`s very difficult to stop them. If the driver’s or passenger window is activated they will flash again. The rear windows will not open at all and the rear wiper refuses to work. I’ve checked the fuses and they are okay. I can’t help thinking there is a bad earth or connection of some sort not working. A friend says it’s the ’control box’. What’s that? Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
