Ford S-Max 2010

I lose the sound from my speakers in my Ford S-MAX except centre but at a low level, with a clicking type of sound and the words "drive fault " comes up on the Sony unit. Does anybody know what causes this to happen? Also under hard acceleration in 3/4 gears the engine seems to hesitate a little then pick up. It will keep doing it until you stop accelerating, it feels like a rocking type of motion. I hope things don’t come in 3’s. Any help will be great. (Titanium)

Answers

Hi matey, did you sort out CD player fault and was it a easy fix? Ben Moss from England

I have exactly the same problem displayed as "CD drive fault" with my S-Max from 2010. I also experience that to clear the fault, the car must be turned off and locked for several minutes and that a short power off/on cycle is not enough! I have noticed that the fault can be triggered by placing a mobile phone on the upper left speaker on the dashboard, so I suspect some kind of radio interference problem in the S-Max. It also appears more often on the high-way than in the city (maybe the mobile phone uses more power when far away from base stations?) Of course the error never appears at the Ford service center so they have so far not been able to solve this problem. Linus from Sweden

We have exactly the same issue. Has anyone got to the bottom of this yet? Hannah Swain from London

Ford now seem to have a software update, which solves this problem with S-Max and the sony audio. I visited Ford service a few weeks ago, they updated the sound system, and since then no CD drive fault! Linus Thrybom from Sweden

It’s pretty annoying we have the same problem with a 2010 Titanium x. Happens every other day and just comes out of the blue! Real shame as a great stereo. I’m going to get in touch with Ford as I can’t imagine our dealership will be much help; very friendly, but only interested in problems they see. Any suggestions would be appreciated :). If the car is switched off for more than 10 mins it usually corrects! Lee Bunn from England

same problem with my galaxy titanium stereo... i find holding the power button down until the display goes black, then switching it back on seems to reset it. Maybe be ok again for couple of hours, or couple of minutes then do it again. This is not a great solution but best i've come up with. Very annoying when your singing along.... then click click click. Ford main dealer wanted at least £90 depending on problem to fix it martin from Greater London

I had EXACTLY the same problem as described. I took it to the local main dealer where they advised that the issue was related to communication between the modules/components in the car. They upgraded the firmware of the modules and the problem was resolved. Phil from Staffordshire

Exactly the same problem as detailed. But my local dealership say there is no update and I need a new unit. Can anyone please tell me the dealership in Staffordshire or London who has resolved this so that I can contact them. Even contacted Ford who just supported the dealer's line and said I could go to another dealership. Infuriating. Dec from Surrey

Grant Travers, England

Ford Fiesta 2007

I’ve got a problem with my Ford Fiesta. When I’m gentle with the accelerator the car revs to 5,500rpm and then cuts out and restarts when the revs hit 0. But if you put the pedal to the floor the car will do the same yet at only 3,000 rpm. I’ve taken the induction hose off to monitor the butterfly whilst revving the car and the throttle doesn’t seem to open until the car hits full throttle - could this be a malfunction on the throttle itself as I’m led to believe the throttle positioning sensor is built in to this unit or could it be another sensor elsewhere? The only reason I put my finger on the throttle is with it failing to open. Can anyone shed some light on this problem for me? (ST150)

Answers

This was the crank sensor that was clogged up with dirt, gave it a clean and it sorted it. I meant to reply to this sooner but completely forgot Grant travers from South Yorkshire

Can any one tell what the switch on the drivers door is for ?

Answers

If you're talking about the switch on the driver`s side placed right at the handle, it deactivates the internal sensor if you have left say a pet or child in the car and you intend to lock the car for a short period. You get the same alarm security without the alarm going off because a movement inside has been detected by the sensor. I hope that sorts your switch problem out ian from County Down

hi, the other day i was driving and my car came to a slow stop, i couldn't get the engine to tick over. my breakdown cover came out and told me it was my fuel pump. later that evening i had a mechanic come round and change the fuse and its working again, but i have been advised to get my pump changed. i have never had a problem with the car cutting out in the past this was the first time. since the new fuse my car has worked but i am worrying if it will happen again. Do you think it was a one off or my pump needs changing?

Answers

Hi check all connectors to the injectors You could be having a lazy or slightly stuck injector! Buy some fuel injector cleaner £16 Pour into your fuel tank when you next fill up And hopefully might clear the faulty injector otherwise its a mechanic job to find the faulty one!! Or you can buy an ELM327 PLUG IN tool with TORQUE app for use if you have android fone.(£12 total)on ebay.and diagnoze the problem and erase fault then see if light returns anton lufti from Essex

Hi. Problems with the dashboard on my 2005 KA Collection. Battery light stays on. I have checked it out and the battery is showing 14v standard and 16v with the engine running. I have heard that the cable from the alternator to the battery light is a known fault. Also I have the ABS light coming on intermittently. It goes off again when the engine is idling but comes back on as revs increase. In addition to this the speedometer needle drops to zero. This appears to happen independently of the ABS light. My only thoughts are a faulty speed sensor or maybe a bad earth for the circuit? Any help / suggestions greatly appreciated.

Ford Ka 2006

Good day, my Ford Ka has recently started ’hunting’ or ’jerking’ lightly after a cold start and driving about 20-40km/h in second or third gear. It disappears slightly after the engine has reached operating temperature but never seems to disappear completely. I took it to the dealer, but they could not find any problems, even a ECU scan reported no problems. Furthermore, my fuel economy became so bad, I only get 350km on a 40L tank. I have replaced the following: Throttle Position Sensor, MAP sensor, Upper and lower oxygen (Lambda) sensors, ignition coil pack plus the ignition leads and spark plugs. I even replaced the catalytic converter at a very costly price. I had the computer reset about 50 times, but still the problem stays. When it idles, it idles perfectly, you can rev it up and the engine stays running perfectly. When idling you can smell the exhaust gases are rich. It`s also got a loss in power and, in 20-30km/h winds, I can hardly reach 120km/h flatout. I`ve had the car for 7 years from new and it was perfect before this happened. Any suggestions, as I`ve spent a lot of money already on sensors etc?

Answers

I had the same problem, and the idle seemed fine. I replaced coil, leads, plugs etc but this didn’t help. Took the idle control valve off and sprayed inside with some cleaner, it now runs like new. It didn’t even seem too dirty inside the sensor but a little bit of dirt made a huge difference to the engine William from Lincolnshire

Hi everyone, I have recently had the problem of my Ford Ka hunting (revs raising and lowering all on their own) while looking for the problem I heard clicking and found that one of the plug leads was arcing so first of all I had to buy a new set of plug leads and replace the old ones, the problem of hunting though was still there so I thought this was now possibly the idle control valve, while I was looking for the valve I came across a 30-40mm split in one of the hoses running along the front of the rocker box cover and into the inlet manifold, I taped the split up temporarily to see if this was the cause and that appeared to cure my problem, I then made a permanent fix with some hose from my local motorist supplier and it's been okay since, it just proves by checking the obvious things first instead of a costly trip to the dealers can sometimes be the easiest and cheapest fix. I hope this experience of mine is of some use to someone out there, happy motoring. Martyn Bray from South Yorkshire

Ford Kuga 2008

My Ford Kuga is fine on short journeys like down to local shops and restarts on the button. On long journeys it`s okay if left for an hour or two before starting, but if for instance I drive for an hour and a half, get out for 10 minutes and try to restart, I have to keep my finger on the starter button for ages before it springs to life. This can`t be right and must surely be doing the engine harm? I have had sensors and return valve cleaned, but still the problem persists. (There`s nothing indicated on the screen to say fault). Does anyone know what can be causing this please? (2 litre diesel)

Answers

I have had no responses to this issue. I have spent a lot of money changing sensors etc, two different mechanics and it`s still not starting when hot. The nearest I came to solving the issue was to unplug the mass airflow sensor, this worked for 10 weeks then the problem came back. Car will bump start when this happens so I try to park on a hill when the engine is hot and I know I am going to be less than an hour. There must be someone out there who has the technical ability to pinpoint this problem? It has been two years now. Mike Parrott from Spain

Hi, my Mondeo has an intermittent problem. The red or yellow snowflake symbol appears on the dash when it's 30°C+ The temp readout will say it's -34°C which gradually increases to +4°C. The air con will sometimes work when this happens and sometimes it doesn't....help please!! Ford dealer have recharged the aircon, and failed to find the cause of the problem, is there not a simple diagnostic they can do?

Answers

The outside temperature gauge is loose and hitting the metal of your car causing this red/yellow snowflake to appear. Easy fix, the gauge is situated underneath the front bumper driver`s side at the grill area (it just hooks back on (can be tricky though). It`s a pain as it causes the front/rear screens to heat automatically as it thinks the car temperture is below 4 c scott from City of Edinburgh

To check the level you need to have the gearbox oil around 45deg c engine running and take the plug out of the sump. There is a tube on the inside of the plug that will have a small amount of oil in, when you take the plug out then the oil should just drip out to show it`s at the correct level, but you will need to fill the box through the little filler tube at the front of the box, this has a plastic cap on to be sure to get it to the right level bob wise from Berkshire

Hi, my daughters 2014 KA with 1000 miles on the clock has an accelerator problem. It is impossible to get the revs up when setting off on a hill, the revs just die off, this happens on the flat too. I contacted my local ford garage today and they agreed there was a problem and that the problem was known to Ford. In fact they had several ford KA,s awaiting rectification of similar problems to mine. I was advised that on their system it showed that Ford were working on a software upgrade to sort out the problem of this flat spot being experienced when accelerating. I was advised that this is likely to be ready towards the end of July 2014 to August 2014. I await to see.

I`m having problems with my central locking. All of the doors are locked except the driver`s door and boot. The driver`s door will only open with the key and the boot will not lock. I have tried to reset the central locking but this does not seem to have worked. Does anybody have any ideas?

Answers

Check the switches in the door shut the tend to corrode or wear out, especially the drivers door as it's the most used one! Garreth from Kent

Hi do you need to disconnect battery to change n/s/f seat belt, and if you do has anything needs reprogramming

Answers

Yes you do need to disconnect the battery and also leave it for a good half hour before working on it as the airbag control module will have stored enough backup power in its capacitor so will need time to drain itself. as far as programming goes if it is just a seatbelt change then it shouldn't need programming but if the seatbelt has deployed then you will need to renew the module too which will need programming Hope this helps! When the engine is turned on there is around a 15 second delay for any of the dials to start moving, the radio to turn on and for any thing to appear on the dashboard screen. Recently removed the stereo and not sure if this was happening before hand. anyone experienced this before?

I have water coming near my feet on both sides of car when air con is on. Can you advise where you think this is coming from

Answers

It is normal to get water in the heater box inside the car when aircon is used Usually the water drains out through a pipe under the car This pipe is probably blocked or split Scott merrills from East Riding of Yorkshire

Hello, When I turn left or right round corners, the red exclamation light (the same as when the handbrake is applied) on the dash lights up. Any idea why this may be? Thanks, Steve

Check the brake fluid level. If low get the vehicle`s hydraulic system checked for leaks and check brake pads for wear. Check rear shoes for wear and cylinders for leaks Scott merrills from East Riding of Yorkshire
