Ford Kuga

I have a 5month old titanium x awd which I acquired through Motability as I am disabled my vehicle has a steering wheel adaption which is a lollipop fitted on the right hand side of the steering wheel.my problem is that I have to use constant effort pushing up to keep the vehicle straight all the normal checks have been done the vehicle has only done 2250 MLS I was just interested if anybody had a problem like this i really like my Kuga but this steering issue is getting to me the vehicle has been back to the dealership but not resolved the Problem

Answers

Don't have an answer but do have a eight week old Kuga 1.5 Titanium x I am not happy with the steering , it seems to be all over the road ,takes over when you hit bumps , steers with the camber when braking. Took it back to Ford dealer ,they kept it for two days , used it as a pool car ,put 86 mile on the clock ,gave it me back and said they couldn't find a fault. The car is still the same and the wife wont drive it! If anybody has any other steering problems can they please put has Ford says they have no input from any other dealer! keith Norcliffe from West Yorkshire

Ford Fiesta 2011

Whilst driving my Ford Fiesta down the dual carriageway, the airbag light came on and the car lost all power and electrics to the dashboard. After a couple minutes the car was able to be restarted. I`m interested to know if anyone else has had this fault? I have just spoke to my local Ford garage where I brought the car from (11 Reg) and have been told that due to the short time period of the fault, a fault code may not be stored on the vehicle`s computer and that I may have to pay for this to be checked out. Not the best after-market service, especially as this is a serious safety fault with the vehicle and it is still under warranty. Any ideas? (Zetec)

Answers

My car (a 60 plate fiesta) did this today too. All of a sudden the inside lights and radio went off and the airbag light came on. When I tried to pull over my steering had locked too. After I stopped i turned it off then on twice. The first time everything seemed fine the only message was low engine oil and the second time even that had gone and I managed to get home fine... Would love to know why this happened but I'm glad it wasn't just my car and other fiestas have experienced this. Emma from Lincolnshire

My Ford Puma shakes a lot when I put my foot down. ,I’ve had my balancing done and tracking. Someone said it could be my driveshaft but my car drives fine and does not make any noise. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Ford Puma 2000

My Millenium Ford Puma kept losing water so I have had the water pump replaced and the cam belt. It was running fine for a day but has now started losing water again. I fill it up and it`s fine when driving, but as soon as I stop and turn the car off it dumps all of the water. Does anyone have any idea what else could be wrong? (Millenium)

Answers

Where does the water come from when it leaks. Sounds it maybe a head gasket fault or maybe a split hose. Also check the Heater Control Valve as they are prone to crack the black plastic pipes on the unit. Puma Cup from East Sussex

Ford Kuga

I have an intermittent electrical fault that means my boot and sun roof won't always close. The boot makes the beeping noise like it's closing but won't close and the sun roof goes to close and then flies back open. Ford have had it 5 times and said as it's an intermittent fault they can't do anything. It has now escalated as the Sat Nav, Radio, USB Charging points and display system froze. It then came up saying System Maintenance after about 30 minutes. Ford have had it 5 times now and told me they don't know what to do. The car is only 7 months old now and is a Kuga Titanium X, has anyone else had this problem

Answers

I am having the same problem with the electric tailgate it opened ok with all devices and when you kick under the bumper, however it will not close electronically. Ford have never heard of the problem and for £118.00 + vat they will have a look, and replace anything at fault at an extra charge. This happened just after its third service and 3 days after the warranty expired. Not very happy Car is also a titanium x sport Ron Ron barclay from Aberdeenshire

I have a orange star which is displayed on the dashboard panel which stays on whether the weather is warm or cold should this light go out when the weather is warm , Thank you Liz .

Answers

The orange star you refer to is actually a snowflake symbol. It comes on as an orange light when the temp is 4 deg C but once the temp gets to 0 deg C it turns red. and turns on the heated screens when you switch on at first. The sensor is located in the door mirror, supposedly the L/H door mirror for the UK but wiring diagrams seem to differ for the L/H drive and the R/H drive. It should not illuminate above 4 deg C but it will be costly to replace since it comes as part of the door mirror. Hugh from City of Glasgow

Did the mechanic code the new DPF into the ECU? He has to do this under the cars diagnostic system and it should really have been done before the car was driven otherwise you can waste the new DPF. Hugh from City of Glasgow

I left my ford ka sport parked up for a while (3month) the battery died so.I jump started it , I put it in reverse bit didn't move and seemed like the handbrake was on ?

Answers

Rubbers seized in pistons on drums need replacing and fluid needs bleeding and top up Ron from Essex

The handbrake is a purely mechanical linkage so the slave cylinders haven't been in use whilst parked, if the rubbers have seized they will be seized in the retracted (brakes off) position within the slave cylinder. It's more likely to be seized handbrake cable or handbrake operating lever within the brake drum. Mick from Portugal

Ford Fiesta

when the engine is running there is fumes coming from the back of the engine, when i put my hand down the back i can feel air coming from somewhere, it sounds like a steam engine as well, checked the oil lovely and clean, water is not contaminated, could it be a gasket that is blowing?.

Answers

Yes, possibly exhaust manifold gasket. Feel around for the air being blown onto your hand before the engine gets to full temperature so as not to burn your hand. Mick from Portugal

hi Mick, thank you for your assistance in this matter, the only thing is on our fiesta the exhaust manifold is on the front of the engine, but the blowing is at the rear off the engine, am i missing something ie is the gasket one piece that fits the whole engine, i am so sorry but i am not very good with these engines. regards chris from West Midlands

In that case it won't be the manifold gasket. The only gasket that fits the entire engine is the head gasket, if that has gone I would expect to see oil in the water (and vice-versa) and a loss of water. I don't know what year your Fiesta is but on a Mark 1 I seem to recall their being a flexible joint and gasket at the rear of the engine where the exhaust joins the downpipe. Have a look underneath and if you've got such a joint do the hand test around it. Has your Fiesta got an EGR valvel? If so check the pipework from the exhaust through the EGR valve (including that valve) and on wards to the intake manifold Mick from Portugal

Hi Mick, thank you for the information, i have checked the oil and water and they are both perfectly clean, there is no gunge on the oil cap or anywhere, i think that it seems to be coming from a gasket quite close to the rocker gasket at the back of the engine, when we run the engine it sounds like a steam engine 2 puffing, dont know if this helps, if the rocker gasket is leaking could this happen?. chris from West Midlands

It is possible but I've never experienced a leaking rocker gasket making noise like a steam engine (or any other noise for that matter). Mick from Portugal

Ford Kuga

The fuel gauge goes to zero, low fuel light comes on and 'Fuel Computer Data Error' is showing. Can anybody suggest a possible cause as this happens even when the tank is full. The Kuga continues to run fine with no other problems. Thanks.

Answers

It could be a problem/failure with the fuel tank sender unit Mick from Portugal

Hi Mick, thanks for the answer however everything else appears to be working correctly i.e. MPG, miles to go before fill up, etc. Wouldn't the tank sender affect this as well? Kind regards Malcolm Malcolm from Cambridgeshire

I would have expected it to affect those as well, I don't know if the low fuel sensor is separate from the level sender, if not then I would guess that it's a gremlin at work in the ECU but it is only a wild guess and as ECU's are expensive I wouldn't go spending your money on a guess of mine. Thanks mike for last post, but flippin car grrr, firstly the abs light comes on intermittently... could this be the abs sensor on the wheel... and now... its a auto sometimes, it jolts into gear when its going up n down the selectors, do I need transmission oil as it doesn't always do it? or something else pls pls advise

Answers

Impossible to say re the ABS without a 'hands on' examination. Re the jolt when engaging gear, if you don't know when the ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) was last changed drain it from the gearbox and replenish with new to see if that cures the problem, if it doesn't then it may be the torque converter failing. Mick from Portugal

Thanks for advice again , Mick from Portugal... Sick of being ripped off at garages , last question ... Temp gauge on dash is intermittent .. heater blower works fan kicks in as it should , would it be a sensor again somewhere ? Clare Hansford from Shropshire

Yes it could be the temperature sensor if it is the radiator cooling fan will also be intermittent as it takes its information from the same sensor. Neither will have any bearing on the heater fan operation. Another possibility is the printed circuit board for the instrument cluster since they stopped using lead in solder the solder is prone to drying out and loosing connection, Vauxhalls are particularly prone to problems with the instrument cluster because of it. The next time you lose the temperature gauge when the engine is hot, stop and open the bonnet, if the cooling fan is running then the most likely cause is the circuit board. Mick from Portugal

Abs light is on, can anyone tell me first is this dangerous ? ( Have babies) and what will be the likely cause ???? ... So I do t get ripped off at a garage please , and replys would be great thank you

Answers

It means there is a fault with the ABS system, you will still have brakes, they just won't be ABS brakes so if you brake very very hard your wheels will lock up and skid. It could be either an ABS wheel sensor or the ABS pump itself. In 2008 I had to have the ABS pump renewed on a Volvo V70, it was either £400 or £600, I can't remember which. A wheel sensor will be a considerably cheaper to replace. Mick from Portugal

hi Mick I'm thinking its the wheel sensor as it doesn't do it all the time.. also now it sometimes( again not always) jolts when selecting the gears 1/2/3 up and down ?? does it near gear box fluid as it doesn't do it all the time or something else Clare Hansford from Shropshire
