Steering problem.. I have rejected two new kuga cars as the steering veers to the left as soon as you let go of the steering wheel. Ford engineers have been unable to correct the problem. My garage tells me all fords tend to do this !,,,, anyone else had the problem ?

I have a 2010 ford kuga tdi, the indicators do not flash when the doors are centrally locked, only when they are double locked. The garage have told me this is standard on my model but I don't think this is correct, would anybody know the answer . Also my wheels spin in damp weather when accelerating garage say this is also normal.

Answers

Indicators only flash when double locked, this is normal. If your whells are spinning, either you have a heavy right foot or your tyres need to be checked for wear. Alan Shaw from Essex

Ford Kuga

Hi Want to but a demo Kuga 2015, but engine block light stays on and manual indicates engine malfunction. However the dealer says their onboard computer system has diagnosed some exhaust emission sensor faulty. Is this so, and what procedure needs to be followed to correct the above? Does the sensor need replacing, and, or, could their be some other proble? Is this a serious problem? Should I look for another Kuga?

Answers

It is most probably the diesel particulate filter sensor. They are easy to replace but since you have taken it to a dealer would make sense for them to deal with it. Expect to pay around £250 including fitting. Alan Shaw from Essex

Had this car 15 months with no problems at all. Went into supermarket to do a shop came back and my key fob would not work, I thought the battery in the fob must be dead. I unlocked the doors manually but the car still wouldnt acknowledge the key to start. So I had to put the key into the ignition and the car started first time and I was able to take the key from the ignition. But now my (i) light is on all the time, my indicators work in the outside but do not show up on the dash or make a noise, my temperature monitor is not registeringredients a temp either. I can not gain acces to my boot at all. Can anyone please shed any light what my next move is?

Answers

You may need to do a soft reset of the system. Disconect positive laad from battery (first check you have a radio code). Connect a low wattage 12 volt bulb in series between the disconnected positive lead and ground. Bulb will glow for a few moments then gradually dim then go out. Disconnect your test bulb wiring and reconnect your postive battery lead to battery. Everything should now work although you will need to enter code on radio to get it to operate again. Hi I have a ford ka 53 plate. It runs perfectly fine until it rains heavily. Once it rains or I go through a large puddle the engine light will come on. It will the cut out. I will have trouble starting it for a couple of minutes as it will cut out with the battery light and oil light coming on. It has oil and the battery has been checked. I will try to start going again but when I push my foot on the excellent or the battery light will flash and it will cut the car out. After I am able to turn it back on and let it sit for a short while it will start and allow me to go again. What could this problem be? Thank you.

My wife has a 2009 KA which developed a knocking sound which is only audible on a slightly bumpy road, however, we cannot find where this is coming from. We have just had it MOT'd and the mechanic said it needed front anti roll bar bushes and roll bar end links, which we had him change. The knocking is still there. We have now had 3 mechanics look at it and nobody can find where this noise is coming from, and frankly it is driving us mad. Has anyone else had the same experience with their KA, having the same issue and can anyone offer any advice on what it could possibly be. My friend has a Fiesta and his is also doing the same thing and he has not been able to have that diagnosed anywhere either, so is this a Ford trait.

Answers

Diane.. if engine oil was low there would be a RED light on. An orange light is generally one that advises or warns you that something is not quite right and to have it checked out. It will almost certainly be an orange light with a symbol.. describe what the symbol looks like then check it out in the handbook.. if you have no handbook do a google search for a likeness R Evans from Caerphilly

First Registered June 2015 and really pleased, no problems, but i cant understand that the following. When pulling away from either my drive, traffic lights etc as i allow the clutch to come out the engine revs increase and i pull away, BUT i have not even put my foot anywhere near the throttle . Tried it with my right foot under the seat and well away from the peddle , the revs increase to about 1200 all on their own. Any ideas please

Answers

Fairly sure this is normal behaviour. My Kuga does likewise, but then so did the C Max I had previously. I personally like this feature, in traffic queues it is quite possible to crawl in traffic without ever having to touch the throttle and I can't see any downside to this at all. But I would also like to ask if anyone has experienced the following weird behaviour When pressing the start button (a 15 reg kuga 150hp) there sometimes can be some slight hesitation, then when you let go the button, that seems to turn the engine, but I get a most alarming situation where the engine appears to fire up as if running backwards, or run on just one cylinder. I know that sounds barmy, but the result is the engine runs so violently rough it shakes and bangs around inside the engine bay and I'm scared stiff it will rip itself off its mounts! The engine runs like this for a few seconds, and I'm in such a panic mode I'm not sure what stops it, I certainly jab the start button again to try and stop the engine, but not sure if that is what actually does stop it. Anyone else ever experienced this or knows what's going on. Peter Hopley from Derbyshire

My fan heater is only working on number 4 any help please

Answers

If your heater sustem is otherwise working fine.. i.e. hot and cold, but your blower will only respond to OFf and Full blast then you probably have a defective speed control resistor... or the connector plug to is is deteriorated. Many people have this issue and change the whole of the blower at great expense and a lot of work, when a resistor is always much cheaper and nearly always easier tto fit. Had this prob with my Citroen Relay and removed the resistor.. found the multiplug to it had one defective connection.. removed, cleaned and reattached connections and it now works fine.. turns out my resistor was good anyway.. cost.. Heater hose blew off, steam coming from under bonnet , car did not overheat, (thermostat is ok) been advised to have water pump checked, although computer showed no sign of trouble with the water pump...are there any other symptoms which would tell me what caused this please... many thanks...

Answers

Linda, there could be a blockage somewhere but there could also be a problem with the water pump.. thing is.. garages say "didn't show up on the diagnostics"... well.. a water pump is mechanical and a fault in it won't necessarily show up on electronic diagnostics... there has been a tendency lately for people to consider the computer diagnostics as the dogs thingies.. and it can be.. in the right situation. You may still have issue with water pump. However, pressure building up high enough in cooling system to blow a hose potentially could be a sign of head gasket failure.. the high pressures built up in cylinders leaking into the cooling channels which are very close by. Flat Battery . Needs recharging or jump leads.... bruck morton from Suffolk

Bruck thinks you have a flat battery.. (maybe defective) symptoms are consistent with that, but could also be loose connection somewhere.. test the battery voltage before doing anything else.. with all in OFF position it should be around 12.4 at the terminals, but over 12v. (If under 12v then you should change the battery) If already over 12v, try jumping it and if it works and gets the engine running, test the voltage across the battery with it running in order to test alternator output.. should be around 13.5-14v.. if it IS, then alternator is fine and battery defective. A discharged battery can be recharged and work fine for a while.. but if it is defective it is not likely to retain charge and will go kaput sooner or later.. do you want to risk being in the middle of nowhere and that happen? If your battery and alternator testing all come up fine then it could be connections to the starter motor or more likely the starter motor itself. R Evans from Caerphilly

my 2006 ford focus 1800 sport has been intermittingly draining the battery. I do not use the car a lot but when it has been driven for aaprox 20 miles then parked overnight it turns over once and then the battery is completely flat. I tend to use the car approx. 4 times a week for about 10 to 20 miles each time. The battery was changed a year ago for the same reason. I recently got the reversing sensors and reversing sensors fixed with a new bulb and switch in the engine for the sensors . the car was parked for 2 weeks and started first time. This lasted for about a week and then started to drain again. I took the car to an auto spark who said he would look at the vehicle but it could end up taking about 3 weeks to find the fault. He could not give me any idea of what it would cost. If the vehicle was tested on a diagnostic machine would that identify the problem. Please advise me what to try next.

It may also happen, that the battery does not get enough time or miles to charge enough. Cold, wet weather, short distances, rarely in use, electric gadget in the car, they use electricity also when parked, etc. all together. And then the battery easily gets empty within some time. You've used time and tried ti fix it already so... don' t know if this is silly to suggest this in your case, Anyway there are also much quality issues in different batteries. Some are very durable some not. Have you tried this simple thing? Detach the negative (black) battery cable every time when you leave your car in park for a few days and check this way does it loose its power. It takes a bit work and patience, but its also cheap way to check the battery's electricity loss. Also of course you have to reset some things like the cloc etc. again... but you do it only once after 2 weeks or so when you're sure that its not the battery alone which is the issue right now. -My husband would probably rather buy the fault finder (lol), but if you want you can try. Hi,when I first start my car in the morning,it struggles to start and thick white smoke comes out of the exhaust.once I have revved the car it's ok,runs fine and had more problems.do I have a serious problem?

Answers

Many vehicles throw out white smoke on first starting.. and your perception of THICK WHITE SMOKE may not be the same as someone else's.. in other words, it may appear to be a lot to you, but may be perfectly normal. One indicator that it may just be normal is that you say when you rev.. it goes. Have you checked the coolant level? Excessive white smoke can be indicator that coolant is getting into cylinders.. and over time you'd see the coolant level dropping significantly (some vehicles do seem to lose coolant with no obvious leaks). At the moment from the way you present your question, I'd not be too concerned about the white smoke unless you are losing a lot of coolant as well. The struggling to start may need a look at.. but it could be something simple like a service needed, battery may need changing, connections to starter may need a clean.. What you could try for a quick test is putting fuel additive in the tank as per instructions on bottle.. it may be that the fuel delivery system could do with a bit of flush. R Evans from Caerphilly

For the past few weeks my ka has started to have problems with gears. When driving along all of a sudden my whole gear box will lock solid an cannot get any gears at all, it will not move at all, I have to put my foot on the clutch turn of engine, try an get it into neutral with difficulty wait about one minute an its OK, will reapeat this as journey continues. People keep telling me need new gear box, if so how much will this cost please. Many Thanks for your time an would value your opinion in this. Regards Susan Hiatt.

I have replace the old head with a new head, cam and hydraulic lifters. The car star perfect but 2 rockers making a tap sound. Do you think I put in the wrong oil grade? They gave me 20W50? Do you think the oil is to thick? Please give me some advice.

Answers

20W50 was the standard oil that was put into cast iron engines of days gone by. Modern engines require a more refined oil and your should be no different.. and a little Google research shows that your Ka should have had 5W40.. fully or semi synthetic. Oil that is too thick could be clogging the galleries and oil distribution channels... in particular the narrow passageways in hydraulic lifters. get it changed. R Evans from Caerphilly
