Dacia Duster DUSTER ESTATE SPECIAL EDITION 2015

4 star review

I should preface this brief report with the observation that I am not a petrol head and view cars as a necessary evil that sit on your drive and haemorrhage money. It is probably this mindset that led me to buy a Dacia in the first place and one you should bear in mind when reading it. I have had my Dacia Duster Prestige for nearly a month now and have covered around 1300 miles without problem. In the past (when my employer paid for my cars!) I have driven Audi, BMW etc. and there's no doubt the Dacia lacks the refinement of these cars but it is well equipped and comfortable to drive. With age, I prefer the more upright driving position. The 1.5 Renault diesel engine is responsive through the six speed gearbox and has been delivering 58 mpg. Sure, there are niggles; the multimedia system is positioned a bit low on the central console and the heat/blower/direction control knobs are lower still. Storage facilities in the cabin are limited. All doors lock automatically upon moving and one has to press the lock control button on the dash before being able to open them. The intermittent wipe on the windscreen wiper has only one speed. More positively, the Prestige variant has Sat-Nav, multimedia facilities (our Samsung phones Bluetooth well but my Sony MP3 player isn't recognised), DAB, cruise control, speed limiter, rear parking sensors with camera, diamond-cut alloy wheels and metallic paint. People look for different things when choosing cars and if you're after style, performance and street-cred, this car won't be your choice, in fact you'll be unlikely to read this review! If however, you want cheap wheels and a well spec'd car with 3 year breakdown cover, and competitive warranty and service plans this car is definitely worth a look. So far, I have no regrets about buying it.
