Bought my Antara from new, I have never experienced any faults or problems. Only downside is fuel consumption it is a gas guzzler. Brilliant in snow, 4WD is great.

I had my 09 plate Anatra 6 days and was enjoying every minute driving it when one evening after finishing work I got in the car to find it would not even turn over. I called the AA they diagnosed the alternator. The garage has has it days and say it’s the battery and most definitely is not the alternator. I have ordered a new battery - let’s wait and see.

Having read all these negative reports on the Antara, I cannot understand why Vauxhall has been allowed to get away with such a disgraceful vehicle and customer service. I pray that someone from the media will read the letters sent to this site and come to our rescue by confronting Vauxhall on T.V. or somewhere they can be brought to account. Personaly I am sick to the teeth with the response I get from Vauxhall and my dealer. Please someone help us. Here’s an idea I’ve just thought of. If you are an unhappy owner of an Antara send in your complaint to G.M. tv. The sheer volume of mail should make something happen.

Purchased Antara in 2009. All well for 4/5 weeks then drivers window refused to stay closed. Dealer repaired, then OK for 4/5 weeks then same again. Dealer repaired, OK for another 4/5 weeks then back to Dealers for same fault. Worst still to come. After 10600 miles and without any prior warning the clutch burnt out as I was driving on the motorway (frightening) RAC towed it to the dealers who stripped it and informed me that there was no evidence of a fault or faulty parts and therefore suggested it was the drivers fault. Having 50 years driving experience and not once having to have a clutch replaced I find this quite insulting. I would like to hear from anyone who has experienced similar problems.

Vauxhall Antara 2.0 auto E 2009

3 star review

Bought my 2.0 lt auto E Antara from dealer in Motherwell march 2009 due to it being heavily discounted. Although I like the car in general I too have had constant problems with the alarm and now the dashboard including the speedo looks as though it has lost the power feed and all gauges show zero. I’m not looking forward to returning it to Peter Vardy as I have been less than impressed with the dealership during buying the vehicle and servicing. Reading the previous reviews it looks as though I’m in for problems awaiting a repair. Has anyone else had the dashboard problem fixed satisfactorily and was the work completed under warranty?

Antara E reg Jan 2009 purchased May 2009 ex. demonstrator. Alarm started going off for no apparen reason I took it back to dealer in July 2009. They had it in 4 times and it also went to Vauxhall Technical Workshop for 6 weeks but they SAY they haven’t heard it. Have they got cotton wool in their ears? At one stage the dealer said that Vauxhall are aware there is a problem with these. I also showed them these reviews but now they say there is no problem with MY vehicle. I have several witness’ to these events but it also goes off away from my house. I have written to Vauxhall twice but they are washing their hands of it and I am the one left with the alarm still going off when it feels like it, upsetting both me and my neighbours. Also the dealer has refused to do anymore to it as they say it is now out of warranty but this is ongoing since July 2009. Vauxhall suggest I take it back to dealer although I have made it clear that the dealer doesn’t want to know. Anybody out there wanting to buy one of these MINE IS FOR SALE (with an alarm!) Only 8000 miles! Can we all get together and let the alarms compete with the vuvuzelas? I bet the alarms would win!

I have had the misfortune to own a Antara for 12 months now, when I picked it up it was dirty and had no drivers manual, the idle speed was irreqular, the SE badge was missing. I booked it back into the dealers for the said repairs, they cleaned it and said they had done the idle repair, replaced the SE badge but they had no manuals. Like all your comments it started with the alarm going off, the front parking sensors going off even when the key was out the ignition took it back to the dealer, after two weeks they could not find a fault on the parking sensors but found the alarm battery was not charging, but due to the delivery date they did not know when a replacement would be found. Then the poor exceleration and fuel comsumption they could not find anything wrong?. Then the idle problem returned and the ESP light came on they found a fault with the carburettor gasket, which they had no replacement and had to use it from another vehicle (chevrolet). Another 2 weeks in the workshop, still poor exceleration and now cold start problems, heated rear window not working and the wheel sensers faulty only reading 3 wheels, which is OK according to the manager!!!! After a new sensor was fitted it takes upto 50 miles for the senser to charge up. all this time backwards and forwards to the dealer in the first 6 months it was back 7 times still have a few faults but they have worn me down and I lost money from work having to take it back all the time complained to the manager 3 seperate letters with no reply. I complained to GM motors who were very sympathetic and offered me a free service but I wanted my money back as it was not fit for the purpose it was intended, they said they were only obliged to fix the car while under warranty, which they were doing. I could go on about its poor performance for ever but I won’t. The car is just 12 months old and I want shut of it so I have been looking at other manufactures, the problem is they can’t give me a price on part ex as none of the 10 Vauxhall dealers they rang want it, nobody wants the damn thing.

I have had my brand new Antara for 3 weeks. I was very impressed with the drive and comfort as I proudly drove it home from the dealers. The car looks great and the build quaility is first class. Great great value for money, or so I thought!!! After just 3 days the alarm went off at 23.00, I could not turn it off no matter what I did. It only stopped after the battery flattened (after upsetting the neighbours of course). The AA arrived the next day and declared that I had not closed the tailgate properly causing the battery to drain triggering the alarm. Although thinking it strange as I had checked all doors before I left it prior to the problem I was happy all seemed ok. Now, needless to say the alarm has since activated itself on many subsquent occasions. This week I took it to the local Vauxhall dealer who told me that he had not heard of this type of problem. After 3 hrs in the workshop I am told that a new alarm box has to be order which will take at least a week to obtain after which they will arrange to take it in to fit the part, so say 2 weeks at best. In the meantime I switch the alarm off all the time but with concern over insurance issues should the vehicle be stolen. Having read about your similar problems on this site I am now depressed. I wonder how Vauxhall can allow this problem to continue to run unchecked, surely it only serves to damage the reputation of what in all other aspects appears a good car. Come on GM give us a solution to this problem, it can’t be that difficult.

Could anyone tell me if you can update the software so that I can put postcodes in. As I do a lot of travelling it is a bit of a pain not being able to put in postcodes.

I have had this car for 5 months, and have done 10000 miles with no problems. Good SUV on and off road, and for distance driving (600miles in one trip) again no problem. I’m 6ft 3in and find this car very comfortable, and very good value for money.

A little update on my alarm issues... I got the car back on Sat 1st Aug and was told that after 2.5 days the alarm was fine and there were no problems. It looked like faulty "over sensitive" tilt sensors. They had been reseated in some "special foam". Sounded like a load of bull to me but as long as the car no longer screamed for attention whilst parked, I would be a very happy man. 5am this morning I was rudely awoken by my car alarm going off, and I’m a heavy sleeper, so who knows how long it had been going off for before I woke up! I was straight back onto the phone this morning to the dealer and I’m awaiting a call back to get it booked back in. Does anyone know if escalating this to Vauxhall will help or hinder my relationship with the dealer/ get the problem sorted?

I’ve had this car about 3 months now. I have the SE model which is fully loaded, and at £240 a month lease it is a bargain for what you get. Wery smooth ride, lovely and comfortable with full leather interior, great bluetooth sound system that allows you to use your phone hands free and sat nav that is very good also. My only bug bear was that it seems very gutsy on diesel, whilst it seems as if there was is some sort of acceleration surge intermittently. I have just had it back from main dealer after asking them to look at this problem for me. When I picked it up I was informed that Vauxhall know about this small problem as they have had a few like it. All that needed doing they said was a SOFTWARE UPDATE. So if anybody has this sort of problem then get it in to be done free of charge. Apart from that everything is as I expected and I look forward to having 3 years problem free motoring. Fingers crossed.

I’m having similar problems to Andy Dunk, Kent. My alarm keeps going off but only on hot days? Not extremely hot days mind you, just about 18 degress and over. The hotter the day the more the alarm goes bananas! Only had the car 6 weeks now and covered 2,500 miles. Some of the worst days I would hear the alarm going off several times. When you’re in a meeting and your new pride and joy is parked near the window screaming, its not fun! So far the car has been in 3 times, including right now! The first time was a "reset" of the alarm. Second time after running my weekend up north with family and much complaining to the dealer I got an entire new alarm (or so I’m told). Two days after the "new alarm" and I’m right back to square one, great! I gave up and yanked out the fuse, so peace and quiet for the past few days whilst I waited for a slot for a courtesy car from the dealer. The dealer called today to advise that some sort of foam has reportedly been causing the alarm problems as when the interior of the car heats up it in turn warms up the sensor, therefore thinking someone is in the car. The foam has now been replaced and the car will be taken home and monitored by their head technician tonight. I did explain that the alarm is fine over night due to the temps, but they still wanted to test it themselves. Im rather dubious of insulation being the cause and wondered if anyone else has had this excuse used? Another strange thing is that my fuel gauge doesn’t illuminate when I am in the red? At what point should it go on or does it not? All cars I have been in have illuminated on the dash a symbol to tell you you are running low, along with usually an audio alarm or beep. My Antara has neither and I’ve tried running it down to near the two red bars, which Im assuming to be empty and still nothing! I’m loving the car as I’m 6’9" tall, and leg room is a serious issue for me in almost every car I get into. The Antara isn’t 100% perfect but I am very comfortable, love driving position and styling. Not sure about the fuel economy though. I have the diesel auto and its pretty heavy, although saying that I am finding a quick improvement in economy. The first £20 lasted 75 miles, OUCH! I’m now getting about 350 miles to the tank, but it’s still getting run in and I’ve read some reviews stating it will go up to 540 - 550 miles per tank. Any advice regarding my alarm and fuel gauge would be appreciated.

Great car with Xenons, leather, heated seats, European sat nav, bluetooth all as standard. Upgraded 20" wheels with irmscher chrome side steps. Been to Disneyland - sat nav a joy. Guided us in Paris, found restaurants, petrol stations and general points of interest. Not great on fuel but it depends what you compare it to. I manage approx 26 - 28mpg. Not bad for a big truck. Kids love it as does the wife who has a Chevrolet Captiva LTX auto. She needs the seven seats apparently. To summarise: try and find the same spec as standard on the opposition and then check the price.
