I own a 57 plate Vivaro and the only problems I have had was with 3 injecters that needed to be replaced at 28,000 miles at a cost of £1,500. Perry’s of Canterbury, Kent paid 90% towards the repair even though I was 1 day out of warranty, I was a lucky person. Just complain and say you will protest outside and show some courage and they soon sort it out. They earn loads and don’t want any bad publicity.

To follow on my review of 2 years ago. I am still ’very’ pleased with this van! I use it daily in the construction industry and it has yet to let me down. I’ve had it 4 years now, and it has been the most reliable commercial vehicle I’ve had in 20 years of driving them! The residual value is very good as well. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another.

This van is fantastic, best van I have owned. I travel from Suffolk to Newcastle and back every night 6 nights a week, 44 mpg no prob. Just fitted new clutch etc, tyres last 50k rears and 25k fronts, 100 per cent reliable after 264,000 miles. Just ordered my new one to replace this one. Brilliant vans!

Bought this van in November, had more days off with van not working costing me a fortune in parts and days out of work. Something else goes every week, doesn’t start, engine mgt gave a list of faults 3 mile long. Alternator packed up today, been a sole trader since November and its killing me and my livelihood.

DON’T BUY, THESE VANS THEY ARE POO. I bought the 2007 2.0 cdti Vivaro with full main dealer service ’cause everyone said the gearboxs had been sorted and what happens? The gear shift has gone stiff, had oil change still stiff, so now have to get new gearbox. They don’t cost as much as the Transporter so every one thinks they are great but is it worth the down time? I’m getting a VW t5 130 Swb tomorrow and every time I pass or see a Vivaro van I will pitty the sucker driving it. DON’T BUY A VIVARO.

Bought new, was ok for first 20000 miles then aircon went, terrible wind noise from side doors and stupid design seat belts that get trapped in the doors and get ripped also damage the locks, mid row seat very hard to get into rear in the dark, poor quality seat covers that come away from their bases. 28000 miles airflow meter faulty and abs fault. 57000 miles rear bearing and front disks and drop links front wishbones. 64000 miles clutch slave cylinder pedal to the floor no clutch rear door lock fault. 79000 miles steering rack ends and track rod ends worn out, also using engine oil like an old banger, also turbo pipe rubbed through on water bottle hose split apart so service mode 2000 revs max £259 +vat for a rubber pipe. Good points: Never left me stranded, alway got me home. 30mpg /45mpg good handling ride ok lwb tyres last for ever (Goodyear marathon). The minibus has now done 160000 in just over 3 years. Would buy a Sprinter next time, last Merc 208d did 340000 miles with hardly any probs.

Bought second hand, thought good van at first, had new clutch, gearbox and now 2 fuel pumps, yes 2! And all the other stuff cleaning pipes. Good looking van but I’ve lost a lot of earnings.

Bought new and built to order SWB with tailgate and twin doors.Fantastic Van. 78k and still on original discs and pads. Excellent handling, 44mpg, very cheap to run and service even at main dealer. Tows well but power out of 2litre engine a bit poor. Engine should pump out a few more horses really, especially as I also have a Zafira B 150ps which also has a 2 litre engine. Small problem with instruments due to dealer messing up ECU software load but replaced under warranty. No gearbox, turbo or timing problems as it is the new Euro 4 engine and box combo. Will buy again. Highly recommended.

Good van until 60k, then new clutch, slave cylinder and then new fuel pump. This van has cost me £1800 in the last 6 months. I drive steady and service at the correct times. If you buy a new van every 3 years then a Vivaro is for you and don’t forget that it is a Renault in disguise.

Nice van, I had transits before this Vivaro, well what can I say? Problem after problem. I hear there is a lot that can go wrong with the gear box but doesn’t it all come down to how we drive and look after them?

I have the Nissan Primastar version of this van. It’s an 07 plate with the 2ltr diesel version - it’s done 126,000 miles and its falling to bits. The dealerships are poor, good van body, the rest is c**p. 1 day old, no reversing sensors, dealer unable to repair, possible driver fault? Four months old, no air conditioning, not covered under warranty (stone chips)? 36,000 miles, four discs, two sets of pads; 40,000 miles, rear anti roll bar fell off, garage said caused by poor servicing, they serviced it. 72,000 miles; 4 discs, 2 sets off pads. I say it’s got a year’s warranty on parts, reply not for brake parts. 74,000 miles, put van in garage for new timing belt, was told its takes 2 days to change belt at approximately £400. I called to pick up van to be informed the engine does not have a timing belt but your fuel pump is leaking fuel, your turbo is suspect, and your power steering is leaking, estimated cost £2000-£2500 - it may be more. A van at 19 months old will cost me £4000 in repairs, these vans are c**p, if you’re only doing 3,000 miles a year they are OK otherwise avoid. But the good news is the gearbox is OK.

Do not buy one of these vehicles! On the face of it the van is excellent, fast, quiet, loads of extras and looks really good. Have owned the van from new and have done 32000 miles. In this time the van has put itself in limp home mode a total of 7 times. Each time the van needs an oil and filter change due to ’poor oil quality’. Apparently this is due to it needing to regenerate but regen light has never been on! The Vauxhall dealer thinks there is something wrong with it but Vauxhall technical say it’s my driving style. How do they know it’s my driving style? Have they been following me driving down the motorway? Most of my mileage is motorway, the dealer asked me to take a log of my journeys which I’ve done but technical aren’t interested and will not contribute to the oil changes (£100 a time) and will not send a technician out to assess the vehicle though last time it happened they said they would & Vauxhall care are unable to overule the decision made by technical, oh yeah and I am not allowed to speak to technical! So I’m stuck with a van which is under warranty which Vauxhall won’t fix. It looks like I’m going to have to get stuck into a legal battle! My advice buy something else and stay well away from Vauxhall!

Fast, reliable and quick. Highly recommended but would advise post 07 model as the gearbox problems have been sorted.

I have had the Vivaro from new, and after 2 years I am very pleased with it. Its only been back to the dealers for servicing, replacement arm rest and A/C condenser (all at service). The new engine and gearbox have not proved problematic like the earlier model. I use this for work and it has not let me down or cost me any time. I had a VW T5 before this van and it had 22 warranty repairs in 3 years!!! It is averaging 37 mpg (loaded with tools), is quiet and will get to motorway speeds with no bother. I know it is widely accepted that these vans have gearbox problems, but I think these have been sorted out with the new model. I have 3 friends who have the pre-2007 Vivaro’s and they report no problems even after many miles. I would recommend this vehicle.

Problem after problem... now gearbox has gone after 30,000 miles. This is costing over £1,000 for reconditioned replacement.

Bought almost new from Vauxhall dealer. Covered 6000 miles in 2 months. Very smooth engine. Will sit all day at 90-100mph (abroad of course). We use it as an alternative to the run of the mill MPV’s (old car was ’03 Galaxy) and do not regret decision for a minute. Excellent for big family (6 of us + 2 dogs) who like to travel - loads of space for luggage. Very good for towing large caravan - but keep an eye on your speed - very easy to creep up to 70+. Slick 6 speed box, light controls, nice ride. Handling okay, but remember this is a basically a van with seats ! No complaint about space or comfort of seats. One niggle is that the stereo is not up to the standard of my last car - but for £16k including the alloys and roof ladder that I got added it’s a lot of metal for the money. So far I have achieved about 36mpg.
