I bought a Vauxhall Antara 2007 model and the car has been nothing but trouble! It went into Burnham garage on many occasions as it had a really noisy engine. vauxhall really didn’t want to know and now my Antara now stands in my driveway, where it’s been for over a year now, broken. I will never buy another Vauxhall!

Just read all (yes all) the reviews and seems we have bought a second hand bundle of trouble. Last night at 3am then 4.30am car alarm went off. The car just came back from main Belfast, Vauxhall dealer after all electrics completely shutdown whilst driving along the road; no speedo, rev counter, clock, lights, lucky it was during day. It appears to have been rectified by a software update that was completed by dealer. The Antara has also got the wettest interior of any car that I have driven. During the bad spell of weather at the Christmas period it appeared that moisture had got into the lining of the roof, via the pollen filter being defective. Turning corners or braking caused a heavy downpour from the sunvisor and centre console to pour onto my lap soaking my trousers. With the replacement part now fitted I hope this is the last of the leaky problems (how long will I have to wait?) Love the comfort levels and driveability but one question DO I CHANGE?

I’ve had my Antara for a month now and have so far been very happy with it apart from a highly annoying intermittent alarm problem. The dealer had it back last week, told me that a problem was found and it had been fixed, but since then it’s gone off 3 times. I’m not very propular in my road at the moment. I’ve tried all sorts, am always careful about locking doors and windows, closing vents etc... all to no avail so far. I see some reviewers have disconnected it, my dealer tells me I can’t do that but obviously I can! Will someone tell me how to do it please, is it just pulling out the fuse?

I bought this vehicle in December 2007 and within two weeks it was back in the dealership. The alarm kept going off constantly, much to the annoyance of my neighbours and me of course. Skurrays in Swindon have had the vehicle back in and replaced the sensors many times along with trying other things but the only way I can get it to stop going off is to de-activate it from inside when I park up everynight - I won’t tell my insurance company that then............ From the beginning, my car has had many other problems, they are: Losing all power - normally when I am on the school run with my 6 year old twins. I am quite quick thinking so can normally act quickly to avert a mass pile-up. Twice, lorries have had to actually swerve around me on roundabouts as my car just dies. The service manager did reassure me though, he said "Never mind, at least nothing bad happened as you do have a few seconds to react". Tell that to the other drivers or to my husband when I phone him to say the car has been taken out along with the twins.... At least the twins come in useful when my car loses all power - no indicators, speedo, petrol etc. This has happened three times and the kids take it in turns to stick their arms out of the windows to let other drivers know if we want to turn left or right. Isn’t it against the law to not have a working speedo???? Vauxhall don’t seem to mind so let the police speak to them instead of the poor person who was foolish enough to trust Vauxhall in the first place (my hand is up as well). Skurrays Swindon have had my car in numerous times over the 3 years (in November 2010) and have now refused to extend my warranty by three years as the electric panels I have had, 4 in 2+ years at a cost of £771.00 each, have a 12 month warranty. I did go to court with the finance company over my vehicle and the judge said he had never seen a new vehicle with so many faults and would be interested in hearing the case should I ever take Vauxhall Skurrays to court - that’s an idea. The Area Manager has refused to meet with me to discuss the problems, Vauxhall Head Office don’t want to know and can’t see why I am making such a fuss as they "fix the car every time". Yes you may fix it, for a week if i’m lucky. They just don’t get it. If I had seen all the complaints on this make of vehicle before I had been stupid enough to buy my death trap, then I would have gone to elsewhere. My only advice is, stay away from the Antara - they are death-traps on wheels and Vauxhall are a bunch of fools who are only interested in your money.

I bought this vehicle in August last year from the Peter Vardy dealership in Perth Scotland. It has been back to various Vardy dealerships 8 times. I had a dashboard that would light up like a Xmas tree; I had a sign telling me it (wasn’t ready) and this totally shut everything down; the engine wouldn’t turn over and if left overnight it would sort itself out the next day. Sometimes. I had brake problems twice and was advised to replace rear pads and they would cost me almost £200. A local garage cleaned out the dust and said pad replacement wasn’t needed. I have to travel 30 miles to this dealership and the cost of fuel is a BIG problem. I am registered disabled and my money must be spent wisely. I have had 8 courtesy cars from them since all this started, the latest an Astra. The reason I bought an Antara was because I have difficulty getting in and out of small cars but an Astra was all they had this time. The heater is the latest in a long line of problems and it has been back 4 times for this problem; on hot it is fine but as soon as I move it back one click (about a milimetre) it blows cold. They have another one in their workshop with the same problem, but when I picked up my car yerterday they told me that wouldn’t be a problem as they had sussed out the problem on mine so they would know what to do to repair the one in their workshop. My car was away for 2 weeks this time, it has been in their garage more times than it has mine. I called them yesterday after getting home and let them know their 2 week’s work was a waste of their time, the problem is still there. Thank god the work I have had done was under warranty or I would be bankrupt by now. I told them yesterday my next move was getting in touch with Trading Standards and going from there. I like the car and have spent a fortune on Irmcher extras etc but enough is enough.

Don’t touch it. I’ve had the car for 18months and it has been in and out of the dealer most of this time. It loses power and the dash lights up like a Christmas tree with ABS and descent control coming on. Still not fixed. I am getting rid of it so my advice is stay clear of any Vauxhall Antara.

We purchased a used, 2 year old Antara at the end of October and are at the end of our tether, having had nothing but problems with it. First of all, the dashboard electronics failed suddenly whilst driving (total loss of speedo, fuel gage, parking sensors etc). We took the car to Vauxhall to be checked/ repaired and they finally confirmed it was a fault covered under warranty. However, we were kept waiting ages for the ’replacement part’ and had to go back again for it to be fixed . We then got the recall for the ’steering shaft’ and returned (again!), to Vauxhall. A few weeks later, the alarm kept going off for absolutely no reason, day and night - no laughing matter at 3am....3.30am....3.35am....3.52am.... Again we took it back to Vauxhall and they said they couldn’t find any fault! This saga continued and was extremely stressful (upsetting us and our neighbours) and no one at Vauxhall seemed to understand that it was causing us a major problem! Finally, Vauxhall claimed to have fixed the fault, only for us to be woken that night by the bl**dy alarm again! We even asked Vauxhall if it was a common fault on Antara’s - which they denied but having read the other comments on here, it obviously is! It was my partner who realised that the fault was related to the interior movement sensor - (not the highly trained mechanics at Vauxhall!) and finally, they agreed this was the fault and repaired it. This week, there is suddenly a problem with the clutch/gearbox......another trip to Vauxhall...£46 to check for a fault.......£366 to ’further investigate’ and then goodness knows what........Can’t drive the car at the moment (although used to this given the amount of time it’s spent at the Vauxhall service department!), as it’s too dangerous. Have had the car for 7 months and loved it- for all of a few weeks........am totally fed up with it now and the warranty runs out next month and am dreading what else will go wrong with it. Have spent a lot of time etc., returning the vehicle for repair and would not recommend anyone buy this car!!!!! Vauxhall are hopeless, they deny knowledge of common Antara faults, seem unable to diagnose Antara faults and keep you waiting ages for parts.

Driving an 07 Antara and in less than one year, the ecu light came on 7 times. 3 times on one day then goes in to safe mode. Can you get speeding ticket for driving to slow by the look of things? I may get quite a few. One other thing I would like to mention when I left it in dealers woorkshop there was 7,000miles on clock when I got it back the salesman told me he put the miles back to 3,000miles. I asked him why he done this and he said not to worry as this was their display vehicle it would not come up on the computer. I am starting to wonder was there some other reason for doing this and was there only 7,000 on this when I purchased this vehicle? I suppose I only have the dealership’s word.

I have had an Antara for a year now and it has performed perfectly everyone who travels in it is impressed by its ride qualities and interior space, off road it is more that capable as an SUV and despite getting it very muddy it has never got stuck, I would recommend anyone looking for this type of vehicle to consider one.
