Vauxhall Astra TwinTop 2.0 turbo 2006

2 star review

I bought this car 5 months ago, I heard a blowing noise coming from the engine, I’ve had 4 engineers take a look at it and they all said that the manifold has cracked. I’ve heard its quite comon with this type of engine on this car, but the cars only done 30,000 miles. Everyone, including me, called Vauxhall and they are charging £1012.00 inc VAT and that’s just for the part not Labour.... as you can’t buy the manifold with out purchasing the turbo as well. The Boot leaks and there is mould inside it as it’s always wet and stinks, the roof gets stuck, it’s endless costly grief. All in all the car is made very, very cheaply. You would think a company as large as Vauxhall would know how to make a car that functions properly.

DO NOT buy one of these cars! I bought one second hand with only 20000 miles on the clock. Love the look of the car but all the common faults that seem to occur on this car seem to have happened to me within the last year! Dents in the roof struts for not reason, leaking roof, horn only works intermitently, roof would not function so needed new wiring harness - £400. Then found out I had a faulty water pump - after nearly crashing at 70mph on the motorway when it sheared off straight through cam belt (at 30000 miles) £1500 and now...bearing gone in gear box cracking it and £1000-£2000 damage which I just do not have. Oh also could have exploded at any time! The car is a pile of junk and made of cheap faulty parts. I am gutted as I loved the car and thought I’d treat myself. The car is constantly in the garage and has left me broke. It is currently in the garage as they would not let me drive it home but I have no money left to get it repaired as I am still paying off the cambelt issue, As soon as summer comes will be rid of it like a shot...just feel sorry for whoever ends up with it! Vauxhall should be ashamed of the product they are selling cheap and nasty sorry to say not a good car. Will never touch Vauxhall again

I bought a twin top in 2006, after loads of problems including a leaking roof the garage had the car more than I did. After 1 year they changed the car for a new one, but the roof is now leaking again. It’s still under warranty but they say the roof seal is not covered - what a shock!

I love the car. A little slow taking off but what can you expect for a 1.6 with heavy roof and so on... Cheap on insurance and OK with petrol. Get one and enjoy!

Disappointed is not a strong enough word!!!! Had mine for 10 days and have only done 50 miles before the roof jammed halfway down. I’ve been in the dealership since, it needs 2 new motors and a broken wire. It cost me £9000 to buy and now a further £1000 on a costly repair. Anyone else had this same problem? Am terrified when got the thing back, of it happening again. What a nightmare.

Bought the car from Motorpoint 4 weeks ago (bad point number 1). The car looks great with roof up or down but it’s been in the garage for 13 days already and being told it will be in for another 4-5 days because of a leak in the roof at the passenger side and also dodgy central locking. The locks close when you press the button but if your next to the car with the key you can still open the passenger side and the boot BUT NOT THE DRIVERS DOOR. The head mechanic at both Motorpoint and Arnold Clark (Mount Vernon Vauxhall Branch) say that this is not a fault. Then there’s the leak both garages have supposedly tested for this and can’t find it but when it rains it’s like a tap has been turned on next to the passenger window. Like I say great looking car just pity spends more time in a garage than on the road.

I have first hand experience of the TwinTop boot/roof seal problem. Approx. one week before the three year warrantee was up, I brought a water ingress problem in the boot area to the attention of my local Vauxhall service centre, they explained that the seals had gone. With a replacement costing £650 I told them that I would tackle vauxhall direct, however, no joy. The rep from the customer service centre told me that seals were only covered for 12 months and I would have to pay myself. I now intend to pay for the work but still carry on pursuing Vauxhall on the grounds that the car is not fit for purpose under consumer act. When are these companies ever going to admit design failures? It’s a shame, only for this problem the car would get five stars.
