Nice looking van, but boy oh boy, when they go wrong they go wrong!!! Purchased the van when only one year old, so still under the 3 year warranty, only 30,000 miles when purchased with service history paid £9,995 in 2006, had 3 years almost with no trouble! but when the van reached just over 3 years old and the warranty ran out my trouble began!! At 43,000 miles the timing belt snapped, costing around £1,500, then at 47,000 miles clutch went costing,£700, then at 50,000 miles the timing belt snapped again, on 24-05-2011, so another £1,500 to be spent!! Two timing belts gone. Wont go back to the garage who did all the work with the first timing belt, as only lasted 7,000 miles and it snapped again, but out of their one year warranty. It’s the van or a string of bad luck!

I love these vans. This is now the second one I have owned. The first was an 03 plate 1.9dti. I ran this for 2 1/2 years (and 95000 miles) without a fault - just the servicing costs. The second is a 55 plate 1.9cdti which has now done 220000 miles. It ran perfectly upto 190k then blew the slave cylinder - £800 bill, but after that many miles, you have to expect something to go wrong. The only other faults I have had since have been a faulty MAF sensor (£39 from ebay including the postage) and the fuel pipe between the filter and the injector pump rubbed a hole in it - £5 from the local motor factors to fix that one. Over the 320000 miles I have done in these vans I have averaged 40MPG and I have a heavy right foot (love scaring porche owners who can’t drive!). It’s just been written off by the insurance company, so I am on the look out for another one.

I’ve had my vivaro coming up to 3 years looked smart and quite nippy paid £5,800 and every year I’m paying for it. Had it 3 months and the gear box went which cost £1,600. Then the timing or cam belt with all other parts that goes with it needed doing the following year which was another £400. Now last week the fan belt broke wrapping itself round the timing belt and knocking all the engine out, which means it’s going to cost between £700 -£1000. So in the time I’ve had the van I’ve spent a small fortune if you add up all the time off work the hired vehicles. You see these VW ralleys with the old vans up and down the country, I’ll bet you won’t see any Vivaro ralleys around in a couple of decades. I should of leased a new one or spent more on a decent van.

Was an excellent van, bought at 23,000 and used it 6 days a week for work and then carried enduro bikes at weekends to different places. Serviced as required but fan belt wrapped around cam belt sitting in traffic and destroyed the valves. Had it repaired... now 2 months later it started missing so replaced the crankshaft sensor but still doing it?? Anyone with advice please let me know? Or is it time I got shot of it. It’s got 92k on the clock now.

Bought van 2005 55 plate had it nearly 5 years never had a problem yet, not 1, the back tyres have just been changed 56000 miles later. I never use main dealers, this time I’m changing oil/filter myself, all the discs might need replacing next year. I hope I get another 5 years out of it.

Cracking looking van in my opinion, seems to eat brake discs for some reason compared to the way I drive. Always sounds a tad rough in the cold weather. Diesel pump just went on it at 65000 miles, cost an absolute fortune to replace that. Gutted I am. Always seems to have small niggling problems. Now on the look out for another van - just not another Vivaro. 2 of my friends have the same van - the same story there, and yet another with gearbox troubles!

Bought mine direct from BT, it’s a 2005. Had 39,000 on clock and full service history - BT are faithful to the recommended service intervals. There are a few things I will say. 1: Always have it serviced at main dealer 2: Buy from somewhere that offers an AA warranty and take out the policy for 2 years. After 2 years change the van and repeat! 3: Buy low mileage if possible and always buy at book value for year etc - eg If its cheap there is a reason!!! Mine is used 7 days a week (about 250 - 300 miles per week), Oil / Filter is done every 6 weeks and Full service every 3 months. If you look after them they are fantastic vehicles, BT use them, AA use them and many many traders up and down the country use them.

Didn’t really have much trouble if I’m honest until it mysteriously went up in fire. No evidence of any sabotage. Fire officer believed fire started because of an electrical problem. I have heard that this has happened to other Opel, Renault, Vivaro type vans. If any one can give me info if they know anything please let me know.

I’ve had the van from new and it’s just turned 150k miles, quiet, fast and reasonably economical if driven right, apart from service items all it’s had is an egr valve, rear brake caliper and a track rod end. The gearbox is just starting to get a bit sticky but it’s still on it’s original clutch so it’s probably that. It has to go back to the lease company soon and I will miss it, best van I’ve had in 20 odd years.

Do not buy one of these vans- stick with transit, only 43000 miles and had 2 new gear boxes and 2 new cluthes, van spends more time off road than on it even the vauxhall mechanics say they are rubbish. DO NOT BUY ONE OFF THESE TERRIBLE VANS IT HAS NEARLY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS AND VAUXHALL DO NOT CARE IF YOU PHONE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY CAN’T SPEAK OR UNDERSTAND A WORD OFF ENGLISH.

I have had this van from new and with 52k on the clock have had little trouble. The service costs have been high on the 2 services I have had, they insist on renewing the brake discs all round which I am sure is what they say to everyone. The power is more than adequate from the engine and I also got mine with an extra side loading door which has been a god-send. I am thinking about renewing soon and was thinking about a Transporter but after reading the reviews I think my search might see me buying another Vivaro.
