My car has just broken down, i am told is problem with one of the cylinders. Being a Sunday no garages were open so the truck carried my car home. I got this car as it is one of the few cars in insurance group 1. Suspension is soft so the car has a good ride, it also rolls quite a bit on the corners. But with a 1.0 engine this was never going to be a sports car. If i drive it carefully I get good fuel economy, over 40 mpg around town. Fifth gear is a low ratio to make the most of the engines power, at 70 mph the engine is doing nearly 4000rpm. The car is happy enough cruising at 80 and can achieve nearly 100mph, but I try to keep it to 70 because once you take it faster it starts using a surprising amount of petrol for such a small engine. I would not recomend this car as the steering is very vague, not sure if it has been driven into a curb hard by a previous user(ex rental car) but I hear that this car model does have vague steering. The engine is loud when cold, it’s actually as loud or louder than the diesel car I learnt to drive in, but once it warms up it settles down. There are better cars out there.

Worst buy ever - Corsa’05 plate! Car has 40,000miles on clock and had catastrophic engine failure on Christmas Eve’09, resulting in new engine being required, cost £2,500 (new clutch put in too). Still has ongoing problems with heating and oil/water leaks. We thought possibly the severe weather had something to do with the problem but have now found out, through Sunday Mail, there are many 05plate corsas out there with serious engine problems. Vauxhall currently investigating this and will report back to paper next week.

I bought this car new in 2005. Knowing that I would be doing a high mileage I went for the factory fit LPG option. In all respects it is as capable as any other Corsa and does what is required. The major benefit is the lower running costs, with LPG being less that 60% of the cost of petrol or diesel, and when even taking into account the lower mpg when running on LPG it still works out a much greater distance can be covered for £10 of fuel. Another plus is the annual road fund licence for this vehicle is only £15 so a good saving there too. The only downside I have found is that the LPG tank takes the space normally used for the spare wheel and as such the car is supplied with a can of tyre sealant.

Bought this car when only one year old from the local main dealership. Has been reliable but lots of niggly problems, for example went back 3 times for faulty electric window, the seat on the drivers side gets stuck and has to be punched to move it and the dealership have been unable to repair it as it is an intermittent fault. More seriously it leaks when it rains, and has again been back to the dealership 3 times and has still not been rectified. Finally the electronic control unit has now gone and I have been quoted £703 to replace it and it is now out of warranty. I would not recommend a Corsa after my experiences, I feel very disillusioned as I chose this car for its reputation of being reliable and economical. In my opinion it would be ideal for a very wealthy but incredibly dull person.
