Very good on fuel, driving at 60mph it achieves 47 to the gallon. Mine is a 1.8 LS.

Owned from 6 months old, gentle use 55,000 miles in 7 years. Seals failed in radiator leading to water in the autogearbox which wrecks it. Vauxhall have known about this manufacturing fault for years now and even have dealer instruction sheet. They have not acknowledged letter I sent a week ago. It’s an internal fault you cannot see and it’s not covered by servicing. Looking at the number of scappers with this fault on ebay, they have problem that could be worse than the Toyota issues. you can’t sell a car with a sealed for life gearbox and radiators that fail after 50,000 miles. They go at all different ages no Vectra auto should be bought at any price. Astra’s also doing it, how safe will the Insignia be?

The final incarnation of the vectra ’B’ has remained an average family hatchback in an un-involving sort of way. It does most things well enough and is probably as reliable as most other cars in its class. Other than regular maintainance the car has only needed one item due to failure, a coil pack after 5 years! On the plus side the car regularly returns a very creditable 43 MPG fully loaded on a good cross country run and on a personal note I like the BLACK (not grey, beige, cream or any other new fangled colours !) interior colour. The boot is a good size although this is obtained, I suspect, at the expense of rear seat legroom. Overall, this is a good but uninspiring motor suitable for anyone who is not actually a motoring enthusiast.

The Vectra handles well but is slow accelerating. I had problems with the cabin dials and knobs but the Vauxhall dealers have not been very helpful... Apart from that it is a decent performer but in hindsight I would probably have gone for a Mondeo.

I converted to LPG two years ago and pay 50p per litre with the same consumption and performance as petrol. My Vectra serves as builders van, trailer hauler and touring car Very reliable, cheap to maintain and a good performer.
