I brought a Vauxhall Corsa in July 2008, it was 6 yrs old, which in my opinion in no age for a car. It was under 3 yrs finance and I have now decided to get rid of it because I have had nothing but the same old problems over & over again! First problem occured in Nov 2008, when my thermostat went, I would come out to the car early in the morning to a car that would just not warm up, then after that was fixed, I had an oil leak and found the orange warning light flashing, I took it in to find the head gasket had gone. In the April another oil leak occured, there was a fault with one of the valves. Then in July 2009, there was another oil leak, it broke down on the bridge of a busy road, the engine completely overheated even though there was water in it. Then a day after it came out of the garage, I had been shopping and it it made a funny noise when I started it up, the orange warning light flashed again, I took it to the garage, who couldn’t find a problem, after driving it to work afterwards and leaving it in the carpark for a few hours, it refused to start. When it went into the garage, I found out the head gasket had gone yet again, and petrol and water were leaking into the oil! Then in Nov 2009, the theomostat went again and the oil light was flashing, even though I filled it up with oil. Then in Jan the warning light came on, the temp gauge was going from cold to practically overheating, I have now found out the head gasket has gone again. Am far from impressed and wouldn’t touch another Vauxhall with a barge pole. Piece of rubbish, clanking, noisy and poorly built!

Well our Dear Silverbelle, is no more but if we could have her back brand new we would. In just over 7 years, I broke a front spring on a big pot hole. The usual gear box linkage went. My biddy 1 ltr engine did 10 miles to the litre, 113,000 miles, never a day she didn’t start. Took her off franchase once for a service at 6 years, bloke put wrong oil in her which blew the oil pressure switch and somehow messed up the heater which i had to pay around £200 to repair. Been looking for a long time for a replacement car worth buying and been very diappointed and confused. I have driven for 23 years without a scratch but this year have been involved in 2 non fault accidents in the Corsa, she saved us twice. Fist time an idiot ran striaght into the back of the car doing about 35mph, caved the boot in, jamming the spare wheel in the holder. it was repaired. Six months later, a 17 year old with a car full of mates ploughed his saxo striaght through the traffic lights into the front of me, agin she saved us. She has now been classed a total loss, shame, i had just put new brakes on the front. This was a car for taking it easy in, she was never trashed, always serviced, never needed any top ups of oil. tyres did 35,000 a time. one exhust in 113,000 miles, original clutch. no major componants ever failed or replaced. A dream car. Dreading buying something new, have looked at alsorts, there is no joy in it, then try to buy something safe, theres ncap 5 and ncap 5, they vary enormously. Any way I shall plough on with reviews. Not sure I would buy another Corsa, read quite alot about steering failing on new models.

I have a Corsa and have had a few problems, like any other car, but it is well worth it even though it takes a lot of oil due to its 3 pistons and small engine. It gives 80 or 90 miles on a tenner and is a really good car. I think it is a great first car to keep your speed down and not get those six points in the first 2 years so I would recommend it for all you first time, new leaner drivers. I have to say we have three corsas in the family and they are, God willing, really good runners so far.

Vauxhall Corsa Comfort 3dr 1.0i 2002

4 star review

I bought my blue 3dr Vauxhall Corsa, 2002 plate 4 months ago. I haven’t had any problems with it except the fan belt screeching but had it tightened and was fine. Overall a very spacious car, big-ish boot, nippy car even though only a 1 litre - cheap on insurance and a very high spec. Great economical engine and I would recommend it, especially for younger lads and girls. It is really economical and ace to drive, smooth and clean. Would definitely recommend to buy used as I did but make sure you bargain... especially in this credit crunch!!
