A Great car! I have covered over 250,000 miles since buying the car second-hand in 2003. The fuel pump was replaced at about 140,000 miles and the EGR valve has just been diagnosed as ’stuck open’, but other than that all repairs have been due to wear and tear (one wheel bearing, disks and pads etc). I would definitely buy another!

I bought my X-Trail at one-year old and with 11,000 miles, and over the past 8 years I have added 280,000 miles. They haven’t been trouble free miles, but I guess the problems have been relatively few considering the miles it has covered. The main problems have been; the fuel pump at about 120,000 miles, a corroded oil sump and problems with brake callipers at 230,000. At 260,000 miles I experienced intermittent power loss, which ultimately turned out to be a problem with the EGR valve sticking, and eventually sticking open. Thanks to the AA man for fixing that. There hasn’t been many other problems, and it handled trips to Frankfurt and Inverness with no complaints. Only temperatures of -20C in Frankfurt, causing the diesel to ’become sticky’ caused me many delays through the last two bad winters. I still love driving the car and at the moment have no desire to replace it - with 291,000 miles on the clock, the car runs extremely well and seems to pull as well as it ever did.

Nice to drive BUT CANNOT recommend a car that needs new fuel pump for £2000 at 58000. Very common fault according to NISSAN dealer. Air flow meter, common fault £400 , new key £300 with coding. How can they charge these prices. DO NOT BUY unless you have deep pockets.
