From a television series, to a magazine, to the internet, the Top Gear brand continues to grow despite being established back in 1977 and the apparent demise of the show in 2001.
Top Gear actually started life as a local programme in the Birmingham area before being taken national by BBC2 and featuring presenters such as Noel Edmonds. The original concept of the show was that it took a magazine-style format, examining the latest new cars and offering car-related information. The Top Gear magazine was first published in 1993 and though the television series briefly disappeared from TV screens before being reborn in 2002, Top Gear always remained a force in the motoring industry thanks to its magazine and online presence.
The Top Gear website combines many of the elements of both the magazine and the television show. There are thousands of reprints of reviews that were originally featured in the magazine and now have a permanent home online - meaning you have access to literally thousands of road tests free of charge. If you want something more in-depth, you can gain access to the archive of group road tests.
If you're a fan of the television series, Top Gear online includes many video clips and footage so you can relive your favourite moments. In addition there are features examining the latest developments in motoring, news articles and even the occasional column produced by the Top Gear experts.
You can subscribe to Top Gear magazine via the Top Gear website and you can also take part in competitions to win merchandise. However, ultimately Top Gear online is a resource for anyone in the market for a new or used car and there are buyers guides to assist you on issues such as car finance and personalised number plates.
